Unlabelled: The Receptor Activator Nuclear of κB Ligand (RANKL) plays an important function in immune responses, activating osteoclast cells and unchanged bone resorption, which in turn leads to bone erosion and inflammation. Genetic variants in the promoter region of the RANKL gene could lead to a higher risk of rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and demyelinating disease with an autoimmune origin, which leads to neurodegeneration and progressive disability. The Wnt/β catenin pathway promotes bone mineralization stimulating proliferation, differentiation, and survival of osteoblasts; it also inhibits osteoclast differentiation and osteocyte activity. Sclerostin (SOST) and Dickkopf 1 (DKK1) are Wnt/β catenin pathway inhibitors. Genetic variability in the expression of SOST and DKK1 might be involved in the development of postmenopausal osteoporosis (OP).
