: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a multifactorial pain syndrome not only characterized by widespread pain as the primary symptom but also accompanied by physical, psychological, and cognitive manifestations. Impairments in conditioned pain modulation (CPM) are common in this population; however, there is significant heterogeneity in the CPM response among women with FMS. The Left/Right Judgment Task (LRJT) is a validated method for studying motor imagery in chronic pain patients.

Background/objectives: Chronic pain impacts approximately 18% of the Spanish population, with low levels of vitamin D prevalent in over 80% of individuals over 65. Given vitamin D's critical role in pain modulation, its deficiency may be significantly linked to chronic musculoskeletal pain, though existing research offers mixed results.

Methods: This systematic review followed PRISMA guidelines, examining studies from PubMed, Cochrane, and PEDRO databases from 1990 onwards that investigated the relationship between vitamin D levels and chronic musculoskeletal pain.

Background/objectives: This narrative review examines resilience and social reconstruction strategies implemented during the 1742-1743 plague along the Royal Road between Buenos Aires and Lima. The study explores how colonial authorities managed the epidemic and its long-term effects, providing insights into historical crisis management and public health governance.

Methods: A systematic analysis of primary and secondary historical records was conducted to identify public health measures, such as quarantines, hospital construction, and administrative reforms.

Objectives: This cross-sectional observational study examines the relationship between chronic cervico-cranio-mandibular pain, a significant health concern associated with temporomandibular disorders, and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Given the high prevalence of cervical pain and the gap in adequate treatment for temporomandibular disorders, this research highlights the interplay between psychological, social factors, and musculoskeletal health.

Methods: The study, conducted from January to June 2023, included 114 participants (mean age = 31 ± 12 years, 69.

: Physiotherapy plays a key role in managing fibromyalgia, a multifaceted disorder, through a combination of active and passive treatments. The purpose of this review is to compare the efficacy of "hands-off" treatments alone versus the combination of "hands-off" and "hands-on" therapies. : MEDLINE (PubMed), CENTRAL, and Embase were searched.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a syndrome characterized by widespread chronic pain as the primary symptom. Neurophysiological pain mechanisms, such as the function of the descending inhibitory system, are impaired in this condition. The main objective of this study was to compare the results of two paradigms to evaluate CPM in women with FM.

Background: Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by chronic pain and a complex array of symptoms, with neuroinflammation implicated in its pathophysiology.

Methods: This study aimed to explore the association between neuroinflammation, measured through interleukin levels (IL-1, IL-6, IL-8), and clinical outcomes in FM patients. Using a cross-sectional study design, blood levels of these interleukins were correlated with pain severity and disability, assessed via the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) and pain measures.

(1) Background: The objective of this study is to evaluate the predictive value of the Eaton-Littler radiologic classification for thumb carpometacarpal osteoarthritis (CMC OA) relating to intra-articular cartilage damage assessed by the Outerbridge arthroscopic classification. (2) Methods: A total of 51 thumb CMC OA arthroscopies were performed on patients classified as Eaton stages 1, 2, or 3. Post-arthroscopic evaluations of cartilage damage were categorized using the Outerbridge classification.

: Fibromyalgia (FM) is a complex multidimensional disorder primarily characterized by chronic widespread pain, significantly affecting patients' quality of life. FM is associated with some clinical signs found with quantitative sensory testing (QST), sleep disturbance, or psychological problems. This study aims to explore the associations between pressure pain thresholds (PPTs), conditioned pain modulation (CPM), clinical status, and sleep quality in FM patients, offering insights for better clinical management and assessment tools.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study explores the differences in core muscle structure between male and female elite alpine skiers using ultrasound imaging, identifying notable variances that could impact their training and injury prevention.
  • - Researchers analyzed the muscle thickness of key core muscles in 22 elite skiers (11 male, 11 female) and found that male skiers generally had thicker muscles compared to their female counterparts, especially in specific muscle groups.
  • - The results suggest that tailored training programs based on gender differences in muscle morphology are essential for improving performance and minimizing injury risks in alpine skiing athletes.

  • - This study investigated how spasticity and impairment in the upper and lower limbs of chronic post-stroke patients affect their spinal alignment, involving 45 participants aged 18 to 70.
  • - Clinical assessments included various tests for spasticity and motricity, leading to measurements of spinal alignment using tools like the Bunnell scoliometer™ and inclinometer.
  • - Results indicated that spinal misalignment correlates with strength impairment and spasticity in the upper limbs, suggesting that therapies aimed at improving motor function and reducing spasticity may help correct spinal alignment.

  • Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects movement and spinal alignment, which may impact daily activities; examining gender differences in these effects can enhance rehabilitation methods.
  • This study compared the sit-to-stand (STS) movement and spinal alignment effects on lower-limb function in 43 PD patients and 42 healthy controls, using various assessments and measures of muscle power.
  • Results indicated lower muscle power in PD patients compared to controls, with findings showing a link between muscle power, age, and lumbar lordosis, and that male PD patients had higher muscle power than females, suggesting a need for gender-specific rehabilitation strategies.

  • This study examines mechanical complications in hip fracture surgery using the Trochanteric Fixation Nail-Advanced (TFNA) implant, focusing on various risk factors.
  • It involved 253 patients with hip fractures treated between 2017 and 2021, ultimately analyzing data from 126 individuals who had at least a 6-month follow-up.
  • Key findings reveal that 21.4% experienced mechanical complications, with significant risks linked to certain fracture types, surgical methods, and lack of osteoporosis treatment, indicating a need for better clinical monitoring.

Background: Sensorimotor impairment following distal radius fracture (DRF) has been associated with a significant decline in function. Joint position sense (JPS) testing is a meaningful and responsive way to assess sensorimotor impairment for individuals who have sustained a DRF; however, there are factors that may influence the results of JPS testing, including kinesiophobia and pain intensity.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the influence kinesiophobia may have on wrist JPS testing and if pain intensity impacts kinesiophobia and JPS in individuals with a DRF.
