Unlike most rivers globally, nearly all lowland Amazonian rivers have unregulated flow, supporting seasonally flooded floodplain forests. Floodplain forests harbor a unique tree species assemblage adapted to flooding and specialized fauna, including fruit-eating fish that migrate seasonally into floodplains, favoring expansive floodplain areas. Frugivorous fish are forest-dependent fauna critical to forest regeneration via seed dispersal and support commercial and artisanal fisheries.

Methods: Athletes between 15 and 30 years old with a preinjury Tegner activity level ≥6 were eligible for inclusion. Data were extracted from a rehabilitation-specific registry, Project ACL (Gothenburg, Sweden) at the time of or after RTS for each athlete.
Tidal marshes are coastal systems that provide valuable ecosystem services, highlighting coastal protection and carbon burial. For centuries, these dynamic ecosystems have kept pace with sea level rise through organic and mineral matter accumulation. In the current situation of accelerated sea-level rise and changes in suspended sediment concentrations, the evolution of these systems has gained special attention across scientific fields.

Other serogroups (non-O1/non-O139 Vibrio cholerae or NOVC) most often cause sporadic gastrointestinal manifestations. Rarely, NOVC can result in severe extraintestinal manifestations in immunocompromised hosts.

Prevention efforts require a comprehensive approach comprising educational interventions, collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, and community engagement. Since schools play a central role in children's lives, they are the ideal setting for promoting healthy habits.

We aimed to describe the mechanisms, situational patterns, biomechanics and neurocognitive errors related to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in professional Spanish football matches.
Methods: We identified 167 consecutive ACL injuries across 12 seasons of the top two leagues in Spanish football.
In the field of detection and ranging, multiple complementary sensing modalities may be used to enrich information obtained from a dynamic scene. One application of this sensor fusion is in public security and surveillance, where efficacy and privacy protection measures must be continually evaluated. We present a novel deployment of sensor fusion for the discrete detection of concealed metal objects on persons whilst preserving their privacy.

A genomic biomarker for selecting patients most likely to benefit from OFS-based treatment is lacking.
Objective: To assess the predictive and prognostic performance of the Breast Cancer Index (BCI) for OFS benefit in premenopausal women with HR+ breast cancer.
Osteomyelitis (OM) is a major challenge in orthopedic surgery. The diagnosis of OM is based on imaging and laboratory tests, but it still presents some limitations. Therefore, a deeper comprehension of the pathogenetic mechanisms could enhance diagnostic and treatment approaches.

We experimentally investigate such screening by measuring the effect of dielectric wakefields driven by the bunch in a uncoated dielectric capillary where the plasma is confined. We show that the plasma screens the space-charge field and therefore suppresses the dielectric wakefields when the distance between the bunch and the dielectric surface is much larger than the plasma skin depth.

A prospective study was conducted during the 64 matches of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, during which five analysts recorded potential injury situations from video analysis. "Potential injuries" were recorded when players stayed down > 5 s and/or requested medical attention.

Purpose: To describe the injury mechanism and situational patterns of severe (absence >28 days) hamstring muscle injuries in professional male and female football (soccer) players.
Methods: The data for males were sourced from Serie A clubs participating in both national and international competitions from 2018 to 2021. For the female cohort, hamstring injuries were identified during matches of the top national/international competitions from 2017 to 2023.
We present a new approach that demonstrates the deflection and guiding of relativistic electron beams over curved paths by means of the magnetic field generated in a plasma-discharge capillary. We experimentally prove that the guiding is much less affected by the beam chromatic dispersion with respect to a conventional bending magnet and, with the support of numerical simulations, we show that it can even be made dispersionless by employing larger discharge currents. This proof-of-principle experiment extends the use of plasma-based devices, that revolutionized the field of particle accelerators enabling the generation of GeV beams in few centimeters.

DFI are polymicrobial, biofilm-associated infections involving complex bacterial communities organized in functional equivalent pathogroups, all including anaerobes. Indeed, multiple pathophysiological factors favor the growth of anaerobes in this context.

Bidimensional video analyses have significantly augmented our awareness, representing to date the only practical method to describe injury biomechanics. However, the extent of the problem continues to raise serious concerns.

Background: Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disease in which lack of the dystrophin protein causes progressive muscular weakness, cardiomyopathy and respiratory insufficiency. DMD is often associated with other cognitive and behavioral impairments, however the correlation of abnormal dystrophin expression in the central nervous system with brain structure and functioning remains still unclear.
Objective: To investigate brain involvement in patients with DMD through a multimodal and multivariate approach accounting for potential comorbidities.
Background: Improving our understanding of the situations and biomechanics that result in an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in basketball players may support the design of more effective programs to mitigate the risk of injury.
Purpose: To (1) describe the mechanisms, situational patterns, and gross biomechanics (kinematics) of ACL injuries in professional basketball matches using video analysis and (2) document the distribution of ACL injuries according to player position, phase of the match, and location on the court.
Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4.
Background: The single-leg squat (SLS) is a safe and widespread functional test commonly performed in the mid-stages of rehabilitation after severe knee injuries. The use of reliable objective measures has been advocated to improve the quality of SLS assessment. The aim of this study was to describe a qualitative whole-body scoring system based on two-dimensional (2D) video analysis during SLS test and validate it against three-dimensional (3D) kinetics and kinematics.
