Scope: The aim of this study was to assess if exposure to different levels of dietary vitamin D pre- and postweaning impacts the intestinal-bone axis.

Methods And Results: Female CD1 mice were exposed to high (5000 IU vitamin D3 /kg diet, H) or low (25 IU vitamin D3 /kg diet, L) vitamin D diet (modified AIN-93G) during pregnancy and lactation. At weaning (postnatal day 21), a subset of the male offspring was sacrificed and another subset was assigned to receive their dams' respective diet (HH and LL) or the other diet (HL and LH) until sacrifice at 3 months of age.

Loss of skeletal muscle tissue caused by traumatic injury or damage due to myopathies produces a deficit of muscle function for which there is still no clinical treatment. Transplantation of myogenic cells, themselves or combined with materials, has been proposed to increase the regenerative capacity of skeletal muscle but it is hampered by many limitations, such as low cell survival and engraftment or immunological reaction and low biocompatibility of the exogenous materials. Context: Kirsten-RAS (KRAS) mutations play an important role in the carcinogenesis of a subset of lung adenocarcinomas and are associated with poorer prognosis.

Objective: To investigate the relationship of KRAS mutation status to the histologic subtype of adenocarcinoma according to the recent classification, patient demographics, tumor size, predominant histologic subtype, nodal status, and visceral pleural invasion, in an attempt to uncover the reason for the worse prognosis associated with KRAS mutation.

Design: A total of 187 consecutive resected lung adenocarcinomas from our institution from 2008 to 2011 that were diagnosed according to the new International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer/American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society classification and screened for KRAS mutations were included in the study.

Sarcomatoid (spindle cell) carcinoma of the pancreas is a rare, high-grade epithelial malignancy composed predominantly or exclusively of spindle cells demonstrating evidence of epithelial derivation, but no features indicative of a specific line of mesenchymal differentiation. The current study presents the case of an 85-year-old Caucasian male with a tumor mass in the body of the pancreas. We analyzed the trabecular bone changes in the pubic bone (PB) and in the auricular surface (AS) of the ilium using 319 CT scans of cadavers to estimate the age. In the aging human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected population with improved immune function under antiretroviral treatment, many different opportunistic disorders may be encountered, along with rare presentations or complicated forms of common diseases. Renal and urologic abnormalities observed in the setting of HIV infection or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome are reviewed with their imaging appearances, including renal dysfunction, urolithiasis, urinary tract infections and related complications, genitourinary tuberculosis, vascular lesions, urogenital tumors, and bladder abnormalities, with emphasis on characterization. In HIV-positive patients, early cross-sectional imaging is warranted to detect uncommon disorders and complications, with the aim to preserve renal function.

Methods: All patients that required acute or chronic hemodialysis and for whom it was determined impossible or not recommended either to place a catheter in the internal jugular vein (for instance, those patients with a tracheostomy), or to practice arteriovenous fistula or graft; it was then essential to obtain an alternative vascular access. Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) can deliver imaging agents or drugs to tumours and offer significant advantages over approaches based on antibodies or other nanomaterials. In particular, the nanotubes can carry a substantial amount of cargo (100 times more than a monoclonal antibody), but can still be rapidly eliminated from the circulation by renal filtration, like a small molecule, due to their high aspect ratio. Here we show that SWNTs can target tumours in a two-step approach in which nanotubes modified with morpholino oligonucleotide sequences bind to cancer cells that have been pretargeted with antibodies modified with oligonucleotide strands complementary to those on the nanotubes.
