Autosomal dominant hearing loss is represented by a large number of genetically determined forms. Over 50 genes associated with dominant nonsyndromic hearing impairments were described. Pathogenic variants in the CEACAM16 gene lead to the development of DFNA4B hearing loss.

Few studies conducted on smaller groups of newborns report results of NBS that also include measurement of kappa-deleting recombination excision circles (KREC) for IEI affecting B lymphocytes. A pilot NBS study utilizing TREC/KREC detection was conducted on 202,908 infants born in 8 regions of Russia over a 14-month period.

While respiratory disorders and oculomotor findings are commonly reported in affected individuals, a subset of patients only present with muscle weakness and/or ptosis but not apneic crises. In this case series, we describe five individuals with exercise intolerance caused by single nucleotide variants in the gene.

The disorder is characterized by bilateral microtia, absence or hypoplasia of the patella, and an intrauterine growth retardation as well as a number of other characteristic features. The cause of the disease is mutations in genes encoding proteins involved in the regulation of the cell cycle (, and ).
