Article Synopsis
  • The study highlights the significant prevalence of fatigue (55.9%) and sleep disturbances (53.4%) among IBD patients in the developing world, which is often overlooked.
  • Key risk factors for fatigue include depression, active disease, and poor sleep, while depression and active disease are also predictors of sleep disturbance.
  • The quality of life in these patients is negatively impacted, with strong correlations found between fatigue, sleep quality, and overall well-being.

Background And Aims: Both single-balloon enteroscopy (SBE) and the novel motorized spiral enteroscopy (NMSE) are effective techniques for device-assisted enteroscopy (DAE). To date, no study has prospectively compared both modalities in suspected Crohn's disease (CD).

Methods: Patients with suspected CD undergoing either SBE or NMSE between March 2021 and December 2021 in a high-volume tertiary center were prospectively compared for technical success (ability to reach the lesion), diagnostic yield, depth of maximal insertion (DMI), procedure time, and total enteroscopy rates.

Article Synopsis
  • Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a common complication in chronic kidney disease (CKD), affecting 30%-50% of patients and linked to higher mortality rates.
  • A study of 108 CKD patients revealed that the presence of PH increased over time, with significant associations found between PH and factors like heart failure, anemia, and fluid retention.
  • Key findings included that the majority of patients had moderate PH at the start, and the severity of PH was related to the progression of CKD stages, although differences weren't always statistically significant.

Article Synopsis
  • Coronary angiography is the standard for assessing coronary atherosclerosis but carries risks, prompting the search for non-invasive prediction methods.
  • The study analyzed 48 patients, measuring neck circumference and leg length, and correlating these with coronary artery disease severity using Jenkin's scoring system.
  • Results showed a significant correlation between neck circumference and disease severity, indicating it as a better indicator than leg length for assessing the risk of coronary heart disease.
