The GC hexanucleotide repeat expansion in C9ORF72 is the major genetic cause of both amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) (C9-ALS/FTD). Despite considerable efforts, the development of mouse models of C9-ALS/FTD useful for therapeutic development has proven challenging due to the intricate interplay of genetic and molecular factors underlying this neurodegenerative disorder, in addition to species differences. This study presents a robust investigation of the cellular pathophysiology and behavioral outcomes in a previously described AAV mouse model of C9-ALS expressing 66 GC hexanucleotide repeats.

Introduction Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease of global health concern, especially in tropical areas. , its vector, thrives in inadequate sanitation conditions. The role of sanitary workers is pivotal in dengue control and prevention efforts; hence, educating them is essential for enhancing their vector control awareness.

Given India's goal of eliminating malaria by 2030, this study aimed to investigate community perspectives on malaria in highly endemic areas of Odisha, a region historically prone to malaria. The research explores self-reported malaria events, community knowledge, attitudes, practices, health-seeking behaviors, and access to healthcare services. A community-based cross-sectional survey conducted among 387 households between November 2022 and May 2023 served as an extension of our recent project, monitoring malaria elimination efforts in remote and challenging-to-reach communities in Odisha.

Background: Singing for lung health (SLH) is an arts-based breathing control and movement intervention for people with long-term respiratory conditions, intended to improve symptoms and quality of life. Online, remotely delivered programmes might improve accessibility; however, no previous studies have assessed the effectiveness of this approach.

Methods: We conducted an assessor-blind randomised controlled trial comparing the impact of 12 weeks of once-weekly online SLH sessions against usual care on health-related quality of life, assessed using the RAND 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) Mental Health Composite (MHC) and Physical Health Composite (PHC) scores.

Nuclear power plants, recognized for their extended operational life, minimal greenhouse gas emissions, and high-power density, are deemed as reliable energy sources. Nonetheless, concerns persist regarding the radioactive discharges from these plants and their potential impact on health and the environment. To comprehend the radiological implications of such releases, this study presents, for the first time, an analysis of radiological data from 7 Indian nuclear power plants (NPPs), collected by Indian environmental survey laboratories (ESL) over the past two decades (2000-2020).

Background: Vaccine hesitancy is a complex phenomenon that threatens global health. Present-day communication technology has paved the way for self-education but also contributed to the infodemic surrounding vaccination. This has resulted in pockets of people who are reluctant, refuse recommended vaccinations, or choose to delay being vaccinated.

A broadband dielectric spectroscopy study was conducted on a partially crystallized 10 wt% poly(-isopropylacrylamide) [PNIPAM] microgel aqueous suspension to investigate the dielectric relaxation of ice in microgel suspensions. The measurements covered a frequency range of 10 mHz to 10 MHz and at temperatures ranging from 123 K to 273 K. Two distinct relaxation processes were observed at specific frequencies below the melting temperature.

Grow-out and hatchery units of shrimps are being impacted by disease-causing bacterial pathogens and predominantly marine Vibrios. The use of chemicals for governing bacterial pathogens in the aquaculture practices is developing resistance to bacteria. Henceforth, the application of bio-therapeutic agents from marine resources for controlling pathogens is most vital to be considered.

Background & Objectives: Bacillus subtilis subsp. subtilis (VCRC B471) and Pseudomonas fluorescens (B426) produce mosquitocidal biosurfactant, surfactin and di-rhamnolipid. The objective of the study was to carry out a small-scale field evaluation of the two biosurfactants to determine the efficacy, application dosage, residual activity and frequency of application against Anopheles stephensi immatures in selected sites in Goa, India.

, an intracellular maternally transmitted endosymbiont, has been shown to interfere with the replication of dengue virus in mosquitoes. The -transinfected has been currently released in many countries to test its effectiveness in preventing the transmission of dengue virus. ICMR-Vector Control Research Centre in collaboration with World Mosquito Program Monash University, Australia, has generated two new -introgressed Puducherry (Pud) lines backcrossing females of Australian (Aus) strains, infected with Mel and AlbB with wild-type Puducherry (Pud) males.

A series of novel uracil derivatives such as bispyrimidine dione and tetrapyrimidine dione derivatives were designed based on the existing four-point pharmacophore model as effective HIV capsid protein inhibitors. The compounds were initially docked with an HIV capsid protein monomer to rationalize the ideas of design and to find the potential binding modes. The successful design and computational studies led to the synthesis of bispyrimidine dione and tetrapyrimidine dione derivatives from uracil and aromatic aldehydes in the presence of HCl using novel methodology.

To glean more information on mosquito diversity and distribution in Auroville, a cross-sectional study was carried out by mapping the distribution of water bodies and habitats supporting immature stages on the one hand and the distribution of water bodies/habitats supporting mosquito immature stages on the other. A satellite image covering an area of 8.08 km2 was overlaid with a grid of 500 × 500 m.

The present study aimed at evaluating the extracellular synthesis of silver nanoparticles by soil fungus Aspergillus melleus SSS-10 for antibacterial and cytotoxic activity. In this study, the formation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was estimated by the colour change in cell free extract from pale yellow to golden yellow after 24 h of the reaction. UV-Vis study showed the absorbance maxima at 410 nm.

Conventional antimicrobial agents are losing the war against drug resistance day-by-day. Chitosan biopolymer is one of the alternative materials that lends itself well to this application by fine-tuning its bioactivity using different pendant groups. Herein, we report the synthesis of novel chitosan with pendant ()-5-((4-acetylphenyl)diazenyl)-6-aminouracil (APAU) groups by forming Schiff base linkages between chitosan and the pendant groups.

Some patients hospitalized with acute COVID-19 suffer respiratory symptoms that persist for many months. We delineated the immune-proteomic landscape in the airways and peripheral blood of healthy controls and post-COVID-19 patients 3 to 6 months after hospital discharge. Post-COVID-19 patients showed abnormal airway (but not plasma) proteomes, with an elevated concentration of proteins associated with apoptosis, tissue repair, and epithelial injury versus healthy individuals.
