Mandibular fractures are the most common trauma cases that we often come across in our day-to-day practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Various factors can lead to deformities and make those cases more challenging, which includes a delay in surgical treatment, resulting in non-union or malunion of the fracture site causing occlusal disturbances and functional abnormalities in the temporomandibular joint.

Cemento-ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous lesion arising from the periodontal ligament and has the potential to form cementum and bone in the periodontal ligament. Cemento-ossifying fibroma is a painless, pedunculated, or sessile, smooth exophytic growth arising attached to the gingival tissues. We present a case of cemento-ossifying fibroid epulis in the posterior maxilla attached to the interdental gingiva between the 26 and 27 region buccally in a 52-year-old female patient managed with surgical excision of the lesion, extraction of the involved teeth, curettage, and palatal obturator while under general anesthesia.

Background Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with a significant burden on both patients and the healthcare system. This study aimed to evaluate the demographics of patients with T2DM receiving different strengths of glimepiride and metformin combination along with insulin. This study also examined the concomitant conditions and therapies, duration of therapies, dosage titration, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, hypoglycemic events, and weight changes during the course of therapy.

The most appropriate method for repairing posterior vaginal wall prolapse is still debatable. Women with symptomatic prolapse scheduled to undergo surgical repair in the posterior compartment were randomised to standard posterior colporrhaphy (SPC) or fascial and vaginal epithelial plication (FEP). Participants were assessed with the Prolapse Quality of Life (P-QOL) questionnaire, pelvic organ prolapse quantification (POP-Q) examination and three-dimensional ultrasound (3D US) prior to surgery and 6 months postoperatively.

The original form of Kepler's Third Law contains a caveat regarding the requirement of small eccentricities - a fact that has not been incorporated by the traditional Newtonian derivations. This constraint is analyzed, and a re-clarification of the real meaning of "mean distance" in the law is provided, by following up the indications given by Kepler in the . It is shown that the modified expression for the "mean distance" not only clears up conceptual difficulties, but also removes a discrepancy found by Kepler for Mercury.

Intracranial epidermoid tumors are benign rare tumors that arise due to dysembryogenesis. Thought rare, they have characteristic radiological features such as their magnetic resonance imaging signal intensities and a typical location. We present a rare case of intracranial epidermoid tumor in a young female patient that was unusually located within the left frontal lobe and had certain atypical radiological findings.

Introduction And Hypothesis: The validity and reliability of measurement of urinary NGF as a diagnostic biomarker in women with lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) is uncertain. We aimed to evaluate both the diagnostic and discriminant validity, and the test-retest reliability of urinary NGF measurement in women with LUTD.

Methods: Urinary NGF was measured in women with LUTD (n = 205) and asymptomatic subjects (n = 31).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare air-charged and water-filled catheters' effectiveness in measuring various bladder pressures during urodynamic tests for women with urinary issues.
  • A total of 20 women were analyzed, revealing that air-charged catheters consistently recorded higher pressure readings than water-filled catheters across different measurement points.
  • The results indicated that pressure readings from the two types of catheters are not comparable, emphasizing the need for caution when interpreting urodynamic data from different catheter systems.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Overactive bladder (OAB) has a multifactorial aetiology, and for some women symptoms may be associated with chronic urothelial inflammation secondary to bacterial colonisation. One marker of such inflammation may be urinary nerve growth factor (NGF). We hypothesised that for women with OAB and urothelial inflammation, urinary NGF would be reduced following antibiotic therapy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to determine how common pubovisceral muscle (PM) avulsion is in women visiting a university hospital for non-urogynecological issues.
  • The research involved analyzing 110 women using CT scans, questionnaires, and clinical interviews, ultimately revealing a 6.4% prevalence of PM avulsion.
  • Results indicated that parous women and those with prolonged labor history showed significant thinning of the left PM, suggesting a relationship between childbirth experiences and muscle integrity.

Objective: To study the deformation of the levator ani muscle in vivo with the use of real-time ultrasound imaging of the pelvic floor.

Study Design: Thirty-two women with symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction underwent real-time in vivo assessment of the strain of the pelvic floor during Valsalva effort. All participants underwent clinical examination, urodynamics and 3D/4D translabial ultrasound scan of the pelvic floor.

Objective: To investigate changes in the oxygenated and deoxygenated haemoglobin (Hb) of the bladder wall during voluntary and involuntary detrusor contractions.

Study Design: Women with lower urinary tract symptoms were recruited from a urodynamics clinic. Near infra-red spectroscopy, a non-invasive optical technique which monitors changes in tissue oxygenation, was used to measure oxygenated and deoxygenated haemoglobin simultaneously while the women underwent urodynamics.

Aim: To compare the urethral sphincter morphology and levator hiatal dimensions between white and black premenopausal nulliparous asymptomatic women using 3D/4D translabial ultrasonography.

Methods: Nulliparous black and white women were recruited in a tertiary gynecological center. All women were completely asymptomatic for pelvic floor dysfunction.

Aims: To evaluate the effect of Tolterodine on urethral and bladder afferent nerves in women with detrusor overactivity (DO) in comparison to placebo, by studying the changes in the current perception threshold (CPT).

Methods: Women with overactive bladder symptoms and idiopathic DO were recruited and randomized in a double-blind manner between placebo and tolterodine extended release. All women underwent CPT testing of the bladder and urethra using a Neurometer constant current stimulator.

Biomarkers constitute any objectively measurable indicator of a biological process. The classic biomarker used in the diagnosis of overactive bladder (OAB) has been detrusor overactivity, which is assessed urodynamically. In the search for a reliable, noninvasive alternative to urodynamics, interest has focused on genetic, imaging, and urinary factors.

Angiomyofibroblastoma (AMF) is a recently described, rare, benign soft tissue vulvovaginal tumour that occurs mainly but not exclusively in the vulval region of pre-menopausal women (Fletcher et al. in Am J Surg Pathl 16:373; 1992). The first case was diagnosed in 1992.

Reliable detection the QRS complex in either a normal or an abnormal ECG and its analysis is the first and foremost task in almost every ECG signal analysis system aimed at the diagnostic interpretation of ECG. Conventionally, detection of the QRS complex is accomplished using a rule-based/algorithmic approach. This work, uses the learn and generalize approach of an artificial neural network (ANN) for the detection of QRS complexes in either a normal or an abnormal ECG.

Pituitary testicular functions were evaluated in leprosy. Forty-three men with leprosy were studied by basal estimations of plasma LH, FSH, Prolactin, Testosterone, 17-beta estradiol, metoclopramide stimulated prolactin responses and hCG stimulated testosterone responses. Fifteen young healthy men with proven fertility were studied as control subjects.
