Article Synopsis
  • Asenapine maleate (ASPM) is a second-generation antipsychotic approved for adult schizophrenia and bipolar disorder but suffers from low oral bioavailability (<2%) due to extensive first-pass metabolism in the liver.
  • To improve ASPM's absorption, researchers developed nanoformulations using ligands like RGD and peptide dendrimers to target the intestinal lymphatic system.
  • Various techniques, including solid phase peptide synthesis and high-performance chromatography, were used to create and characterize liposomal formulations, and in vitro and in vivo studies were conducted to assess their effectiveness and pharmacokinetics in rats.

Background: Nintedanib (NTB) is a multiple tyrosine kinase inhibitor, been investigated for many disease conditions like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), systemic sclerosis interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). NTB is available as oral capsule formulation, but its ability to detect degradants formed through oxidative, photolytic and hydrolytic processes makes it difficult to quantify. In the current work, a novel reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method was developed and validated.

Background and objectives Endothelial soluble lectin-type oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor 1 (sLOX-1) recognizes oxidized low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and triggers downstream signaling leading to atherosclerosis. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the utility of sLOX-1 as a biomarker for detecting acute myocardial infarction (MI) and stable angina (SA) and to develop a diagnostic algorithm for distinguishing coronary vasospasm from coronary plaque rupture. Methods We enrolled 62 patients who underwent diagnostic coronary angiography (CAG) and 30 healthy controls (21 men and nine women) and measured sLOX-1, troponin I, and cardiac myosin-binding protein C (c-MyBPC) using commercial kits.

Article Synopsis
  • There is a need for better biomarkers to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis (RA), especially in seronegative cases, as traditional tests like Rheumatoid Factor and anti-CCP have limited usefulness.
  • Tenascin-C, a glycoprotein linked to RA, was studied for its diagnostic potential; researchers measured its levels in 60 RA patients (30 seropositive and 30 seronegative) and 30 healthy controls.
  • Results showed that Tenascin-C levels were significantly higher in RA patients compared to controls, showing a high sensitivity (96.6%) and specificity (100%), suggesting it could be a valuable addition to current diagnostic methods for RA.

The present research aims to investigate the miscibility, physical stability, solubility, and dissolution rate of a poorly water-soluble glibenclamide (GLB) in solid dispersions (SDs) with hydrophilic carriers like PEG-1500 and PEG-50 hydrogenated palm glycerides (Acconon). Mathematical theories such as Hansen solubility parameters, Flory Huggins theory, Gibbs free energy, and the in silico molecular dynamics simulation study approaches were used to predict the drug-carrier miscibility. To increase the solubility further, the effervescence technique was introduced to the conventional solid dispersions to prepare effervescent solid dispersions (ESD).

Article Synopsis
  • Heart failure (HFpEF) is difficult to diagnose, and NT-proBNP has limited effectiveness for this condition, prompting research into serum Galectin-3 as a potential biomarker.
  • A study involving 63 heart failure patients showed that both Galectin-3 and NT-proBNP levels were significantly higher than those in controls, with Galectin-3 demonstrating better sensitivity and area under the curve (AUC) for diagnosis.
  • Results indicate that Galectin-3 could serve as a more reliable biomarker for HFpEF, and using both Galectin-3 and NT-proBNP together may enhance diagnostic accuracy.

The rationale of the current study was to assess the prevalence of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OHD) deficiency and hyperparathyroidism in South Indian population and to explore interrelationships of 25-OHD, Ca, P towards parathyroid hormone (PTH) production using adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). A total of 407 subjects (228 men 179 women) with the mean age 56.8 ± 14.

β-Secretase (BACE1) has been broadly documented as one of the possible therapeutic targets for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. In this paper, we report the synthesis and the for β-secretase (BACE-1) inhibitory activity of new series of tetrahydrobenzo [b] pyran derivatives. One-pot synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo [b] pyrans was carried out by condensing aromatic aldehyde, malononitrile and 1,3-cyclohexanedione using ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium chloride ([bmIm]Cl) in aqueous alcohol media.

Background: Diabetic nephropathy is a major complication with high morbidity and mortality, and leads to end stage renal disease (ESRD). Type IV collagen is the main component of the glomerular basement membrane (GBM) and the extracellular matrix. The thickening of the GBM is due to accumulation of type IV collagen and alterations in its structure and composition.

Silicones are widely used as biomaterials for medical devices such as extracorporeal equipments. However, there is often conflicting evidence about their supposed cell- and histocompatibility. Macrophages could mediate silicone-induced adverse responses such as foreign body reaction and fibrous encapsulation.

Cyclodextrins (CDs) are carrier molecules produced by cyclization of α-1,4-glucans by Cyclodextrin Glycosyl Transferase (CGTase). These torus shaped molecules have hydrophobic cavity and hydrophilic shell making them useful in pharmaceutical, food, textile, pesticide and cosmetic industries. In this study, culture conditions for the production of CGTase by organism belonging to Arthrobacter genus obtained from a paddy field soil were optimized by single parameter mode.

A rapid, sensitive and selective pseudoMRM (pMRM)-based method for the determination of solutol HS15 (SHS15) in rat plasma was developed using liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The most abundant ions corresponding to SHS15 free polyethyleneglycol (PEG) oligomers at / 481, 525, 569, 613, 657, 701, 745, 789, 833, 877, 921 and 965 were selected for pMRM in electrospray mode of ionization. Purity of the lipophilic and hydrophilic components of SHS15 was estimated using evaporative light scattering detector (ELSD).

Umbilical cord neoplasms are rare. Teratomas, which are accepted as the only true neoplasms at this site, are exceptional. These tumors are polymorphic in their presentation and are often associated with other abnormalities, with exomphalos being the most common abnormality.

Decompensation followed by death is the most serious outcome in patients suffering from cirrhosis of the liver. Alteration of trace elements may play a vital role in the process of decompensation. To examine the change in status of trace elements during the decompensation process, we analysed the zinc, copper, iron, magnesium, bilirubin and albumin levels in the serum of compensated (n = 34) and decompensated (n = 31) liver cirrhosis patients and compared them with healthy control group (n = 36) by post hoc ANOVA.

We present a case regarding the anomalous branching in the third part of the axillary artery on the left side in a 35-year-old male Nepalese cadaver. In the third part the axillary artery divided into superficial brachial and deep brachial arteries. The superficial brachial artery continued in the arm without giving any branches and ended in the cubital fossa dividing into radial and ulnar arteries.
