Treatment of chronic hepatitis C genotype 3 with Sofosbuvir-based therpy: a real-life study.

Background And Aims: Recently, Sofosbuvir was launched in India at affordable cost. We conducted a real-life study to determine the efficacy and safety of Sofosbuvir plus Ribavirin, with and without peginterferon-alfa 2a, in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) genotype 3, the commonest genotype in South Asia.

Methods: This study included data of CHC patients from 11 sites in northern India between March 2015 and December 2015 (n = 1203).

Effect of lowering HBV DNA levels by initial antiviral therapy before adding immunomodulator on treatment of chronic hepatitis B.

Background: Lower hepatitis B virus DNA (HBV DNA) levels are associated with better responses in chronic hepatitis B (CHB). It is unclear whether an initial phase of antiviral treatment to lower HBV DNA levels before adding immunomodulator therapy is more effective than the strategy of using immunomodulators from the beginning.

Aim: The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy of lamivudine followed by pegylated-interferon (peg-IFN) therapy with placebo followed by peg-IFN therapy in HBeAg-positive CHB patients.
