Extra-pulmonary TB (EPTB) is difficult to diagnose due to paucibacillary nature of disease. Current study evaluated accuracy of Truenat MTB and MTB-Rif Dx (TN), for detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and resistance to rifampicin. Samples were collected from 2103 treatment naive adults with presumptive EPTB, and tested by smear microscopy, liquid culture (LC) (MGIT-960) and GeneXpert MTB/RIF (GX) (Microbiological Reference Standards, MRS).

Background: Childhood cancers are emerging as an essential concern in India where there is lack of a specific programme component or policy to address childhood cancer control. There is limited information on the status and quality of childhood cancer care services in India. This paper describes the childhood cancer care services available at secondary and tertiary-level hospitals in India through a cross sectional study design.

Neuro-osteoarthropathy often called as Charcot joint results from decreased sensory innervations of the involved joint resulting in severely damaged and disrupted joints and involvement of adjacent soft tissues. Charcot joint is characterized by the "6Ds," which are i) distended joints, ii) density increase, iii) debris production, iv) dislocation, v) disorganization, and vi) destruction. Hip joint involvement is very rare probably because of rich nerve supply compared with other peripheral joints.

Background: Cancer mortality has doubled in India, a lower and middle-income country, from 1990 to 2016, depicting the ever-increasing burden of non-communicable disease. Karnataka, situated in the south of India, is one of the states with a rich medical college and hospital milieu. We present the status of cancer care across the state from the data collected by the investigators through public registries and personal communication to the concerned units to know the distribution of various services across the districts and give probable directives to improve on the present situation with emphasis on radiation therapy.

Background: Carcinoma cervix contributes to a major proportion of cancer treatment in tertiary oncology centers. The outcomes are dependent on multiple factors. We conducted an audit to establish the pattern of treatment practiced for carcinoma cervix at the institute and suggest changes thereof to improve the quality of care.

In this COVID-19 era, isolating people and reviewing their contacts has proven to be insufficient to control the COVID-19 pandemic as there was a huge gap between exposure to the virus and isolation due to the late onset of symptoms. This led to the spread of infection and people faced the consequences not only of viral infection, but also of financial and occupational crises. People followed best management practices, however, new variants emerged that caused infection.

The objective of this study is to analyze the impact of clinicopathological and treatment-related factors on survival in patients with malignant ovarian germ cell tumor. A total of 253 patients of ovarian germ cell malignancy were retrospectively reviewed during 2000-2019. Out of these, 111 had primary treatment at our institute, which is a dedicated regional cancer center.

Unlabelled: The objectives of this study are to assess the role of non-chemotherapeutic combination of drugs as maintenance therapy, after standard treatment, for advanced epithelial ovarian cancers (EOC) and to determine the recurrence-free survival (RFS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). One hundred women with advanced high-grade EOC who had completed standard treatment by primary/interval debulking surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy were randomised to either receive (study group) or not to receive (control group) the non-chemotherapeutic maintenance therapy (oral metformin, anastrozole, aspirin, atorvastatin, vitamin D, injection zoledronic acid). Both groups were followed up, and trends of RFS and CSS were analysed.

To study the clinical, biochemical, radiological, pathological characteristics, surgical treatment details, and follow-up of growing teratoma syndrome (GTS) patients. This is a retrospective study of GTS treated in the Department of Gynaecological Oncology at a regional cancer institute from March 2000 to March 2020. A total of 303 cases of germ cell ovarian cancers were treated, and 8 (2.

Background: Empyema thoracis is an entity seen across all age groups. This study aims at reporting a detailed microbiological profile of "pus and pleural tissue" in patients operated for empyema thoracis and also correlating it with perioperative clinical outcomes.

Materials And Methods: Patients operated for empyema thoracis between 2012 and 2016 were included in the study.

A typical presentation of a foreign body aspiration (FBA) in a child includes witnessed choking, respiratory distress, cyanosis, coughing, wheezing, diminished breath sounds, and/or altered mental status. Following an extensive literature review, we found pneumothorax occurring secondary to FBA is a rare occurrence and should elicit prompt treatment. This 17-month-old female was admitted for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) bronchiolitis and developed a subsequent pneumothorax during her hospital stay, consequent to aspiration of a cashew fragment two weeks before presentation.

Background: Recent advances in radiation technology has allowed to significantly reduce toxicity and improve the efficacy of radical radiotherapy in head and neck and oral squamous cell cancers. Insights into molecular biology of carcinogenesis has opened a window for identifying aggressive clinical situations that may benefit with larger clinical target volume (CTV ) margin, broader levels of nodal coverage, or alternative radiation sensitizers.

Aim: To evaluate the potential role of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (elF4E) and p53 as predictive biomarkers in resected margins of head and neck and oral cancers.

Introduction: Giant cell tumors (GCTs) are locally aggressive tumors that principally affect the epiphysis of long bones. Histologically, these tumors consist of three types of cells: Osteoclast-like multinucleated giant cells, round mononuclear cells resembling mononucleocytes, and spindle-shaped round fibroblast-like stromal cells. Radiographically, the tumors appear osteolytic and radiolucent without a sclerotic border.

Pediatric emergency medicine providers must be astute at generating the differential diagnosis and performing the appropriate evaluation to promptly determine the underlying cause of new onset paraplegia. Spinal cord infarction (SCI) is a potential etiology of paraplegia in children, and fibrocartilaginous embolization is a rare underlying cause of SCI. We present an illustrative case of SCI secondary to fibrocartilaginous embolization in an otherwise healthy adolescent who developed symptoms of spinal cord dysfunction after basketball play.

Background And Purpose: To examine the feasibility of improving breast-conserving radiotherapy with simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) and analyzing the efficiency of forward versus inverse intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) techniques in providing the same.

Materials And Methods: Three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) field-in-field (FIF) plans with simultaneous and sequential boost and IMRT SIB plans were generated for the datasets of 20 patients who had undergone breast-conserving surgery. The 3 plans were compared dosimetrically for efficiency in terms of planning target volume (PTV) coverage (PTV 95%), homogeneity and conformity, dose delivered to ipsilateral/contralateral lungs (I/L: V10, V20, C/L: Vmean, V5), heart and contralateral breast (Vmean, V30 for heart and Vmean, V1, V5 for C/L breast).

Aspiration of foreign body (FB) into the airways is common in children and continues to be a cause for morbidity and mortality. We report herein, successful thoracoscopic management of a child who aspirated a large magnetic FB into his right bronchus and developed a tear of bronchus intermedius (BI) during an attempt at bronchoscopic retrieval using rigid bronchoscope. The impacted FB was successfully removed thoracoscopically followed by thoracoscopic BI repair.

Background & Objectives: Mediastinal lesions are uncommon and are infrequently encountered in routine clinical practice. Hence, there is a need for more elaborate studies of mediastinal lesions to make the pathologists and clinicians aware of the large spectrum of these lesions. The present study describes the histomorphological spectrum of various mediastinal lesions in a tertiary care hospital in India, along with the discussion of some unusual and interesting cases.
