The safety of CAR-T cells and PD-1 antibody combination on an experimental model.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells and PD-1 antibodies (PD-1 Ab) are emergent immunotherapies with unprecedented efficacy. The presence of PD-1 on T cells contributes to hypofunction of CAR-T therapy and inhibition of PD-1 enhances anti-cancer effect of CAR-T cells. Therefore, the combination of CAR-T cells and PD-1 antibody is a promissing strategy for cancer treatment.

Auxeticity of monolayer, few-layer, vdW heterostructure and ribbon penta-graphene.

Using molecular statics simulations, we specifically focus on investigating the negative Poisson's ratio of the monolayer, few-layer, van der Waals, and ribbon penta-graphene. As a result, we provide evidence to show that the Poisson's ratio is the combination of bond stretching and angle rotating mechanism. The auxeticity of monolayer penta-graphene is due to the dominance of bond stretching.

X-ray-irradiated K562 feeder cells for expansion of functional CAR-T cells.

Immunotherapy, particularly CAR-T therapy has recently emerged as an innovator for cancer treatment. Gamma-irradiated K562 cells is a common and effective method to stimulated CAR-T cells prior to treatment. However, high cost and limited equipment of gamma-irradiation is drawback of this method.

Negative out-of-plane Poisson's ratio of bilayer graphane.

With its excellent mechanical and thermal properties, bilayer graphane is a promising material for realizing future nanoelectromechanical systems. In this study, we focus on the auxetic behavior of bilayer graphane under external loading along various directions through atomistic simulations. We numerically and theoretically reveal the mechanism of the auxeticity in terms of intrinsic interactions between carbon atoms by constructing bilayer graphane.

Complex three-dimensional graphene structures driven by surface functionalization.

The origami technique can provide inspiration for fabrication of novel three-dimensional (3D) structures with unique material properties from two-dimensional sheets. In particular, transformation of graphene sheets into complex 3D graphene structures is promising for functional nano-devices. However, practical realization of such structures is a great challenge.

Sentinel lymph node biopsy for sebaceous cell carcinoma and melanoma of the ocular adnexa.

Objective: To provide clinical details and long-term outcome data for a series of patients with eyelid or conjunctival melanoma or eyelid sebaceous cell carcinoma who underwent sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy.

Design: Retrospective interventional case series with review of clinical records and pathologic specimens.

Setting: Tertiary comprehensive cancer center.

Ultrasound biomicroscopy for estimation of tumor thickness for conjunctival melanoma.

We assessed the feasibility of using high-frequency ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) in estimating thickness of conjunctival melanomas preoperatively. Three patients underwent UBM prior to excision of conjunctival melanoma between February 2003 and March 2006. Conjunctival tumor thickness was estimated via UBM in each case and compared with the estimated histopathologic tumor thickness (Breslow thickness).

Sutureless transconjunctival repair of orbital blowout fractures.

Purpose: To evaluate early postoperative results and complications in patients who underwent repair of isolated orbital floor blowout fractures with placement of nonfixed implants through a transconjunctival and sutureless incision.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 26 cases of isolated floor fractures repaired by this technique. Criteria for inclusion in this study were transconjunctival approach, nonfixed orbital implants, and sutureless closure.

Bloody tears of unknown cause: case series and review of the literature.

Purpose: To report 4 cases of recurrent unilateral bloody tears.

Methods: Retrospective case series.

Results: One boy and 3 girls, ranging in age from 6 to 14 years, reported spontaneous bloody tearing.

Retained intraorbital metallic foreign bodies.

Purpose: To document the biological tolerance of retained metallic orbital foreign bodies managed with conservative treatment.

Methods: A retrospective chart review of 43 patients treated between 1987 and 1993 with retained intraorbital metallic foreign bodies was performed. Age, sex, injury, imaging studies obtained, location of the foreign body, initial and final visual acuity, length of follow-up, treatment, and related adverse reactions and/or complications were recorded.
