Pediatric obesity continues to be an omnipresent disease; 1 in 5 children and adolescents have obesity in the United States. The comorbidities associated with youth-onset obesity tend to have a more severe disease progression in youth compared to their adult counterparts with the same obesity-related condition. A comorbidity of focus in this study is metabolism-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), which has rapidly evolved into the most common liver disease seen in the pediatric population.

The aim of this secondary analysis was to compare the effects of time-restricted eating (TRE) versus calorie restriction (CR) and controls on sleep in adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Adults with T2D (n = 75) were randomized to 1 of 3 interventions for 6 months: 8 h TRE (eating only between 12 and 8 pm daily); CR (25% energy restriction daily); or control. Our results show that TRE has no effect on sleep quality, duration, insomnia severity, or risk of obstructive sleep apnea, relative to CR and controls, in patients with T2D over 6 months.

Introduction: To date, there has been no study investigating how meal-timing impacts glucose and insulin resistance among Latino youth at high risk of type 2 diabetes. A proof-of-concept study was conducted to assess metabolic response to a test-meal consumed in the morning, afternoon, and evening among 15 Latino adolescents with obesity using a within-participant design.

The Eating Disorders In weight-related Therapy (EDIT) Collaboration brings together data from randomised controlled trials of behavioural weight management interventions to identify individual participant risk factors and intervention strategies that contribute to eating disorder risk. We present a protocol for a systematic review and individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis which aims to identify participants at risk of developing eating disorders, or related symptoms, during or after weight management interventions conducted in adolescents or adults with overweight or obesity. This study aimed to determine which paediatric patients: (1) receive a diagnostic code for obesity; (2) are most likely to be screened for hyperlipidaemia, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and type 2 diabetes mellitus; and (3) are most likely to be prescribed AOM.

Unlabelled: Youth-onset type 2 diabetes (T2D) is becoming increasingly prevalent, especially among Latino youth, and there is limited information on its pathophysiology and causative factors. Here, we describe findings from a longitudinal cohort study in 262 Latino children with overweight/obesity at risk of developing T2D with annual measures of oral and intravenous glucose tolerance (IVGTT), body composition, and fat distribution. Logistic binomial regression was used to identify significant predictors in those who developed T2D compared with matched control participants, and mixed-effects growth models were used to compare rates of change in metabolic versus adiposity measures between groups.

Pediatric obesity rates continue to rise steeply with significant adverse effects on health outcomes across the lifespan. Significant obesity can affect the efficacy, side effects, and ability to use certain treatment, medication, or imaging modalities needed in the evaluation and management of acute pediatric conditions. Inpatient settings are rarely used as an opportunity for weight counseling and thus there is a paucity of clinical guidelines on how to manage severe obesity in the inpatient setting.
