In this study, rodents (Rattus rattus) and mollusks (Achatina fulica) were captured in a small forest located in a large metropolitan city in Brazil, and they were examined to investigate possible parasitism by Angiostrongylus cantonensis. The parasites were recovered as helminths from the pulmonary arteries of the synanthropic rodents and as third-stage larvae (with Metastrongylidae family characteristics) from the mollusks. To confirm the species, these larvae were used to experimentally infect Rattus norvegicus for the posterior recovery of adult helminths.

This document "Proposed management model for the use of telemonitoring to positive airway pressure adherence" was prepared by a special commission of the Brazilian Association of Sleep Medicine, with the objective of recommending a follow-up model for patients undergoing positive airway pressure therapy using telemonitoring. This proposal was prepared based on a survey and analysis of the most up-to-date national and international literature and uses the best available evidence to facilitate the standardization of care by Sleep Science specialists with potential benefit for patients. Among the conclusions of the document, it is emphasized that telemonitoring is an important tool that allows health professionals trained in sleep-disordered breathing to remotely monitor PAP therapy, allowing prompt and, when necessary, daily adjustments to be made in order to increase adherence to treatment.

Despite the epidemiological importance of the Lymnaeidae family regarding transmission of Fasciola hepatica, knowledge about the diversity and distribution of these molluscs and the role of each species in the expansion of fasciolosis remains sparse. Classical morphological (n=10) identification was performed in lymneids from Lagoa Santa, a municipality in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, along with molecular and phylogenetic analysis (n=05) based on the partial nucleotide sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene (COI mtDNA) and ribosomal internal transcribed spacer II (ITS-2 rDNA). The shell morphology made it possible to distinguish the lymneids of Lagoa Santa from Pseudosuccinea columella.

The Brazilian Caatinga is part of the seasonally dry tropical forests, a vegetation type disjunctly distributed throughout the Neotropics. It has been suggested that during Pleistocene glacial periods, these dry forests had a continuous distribution, so that these climatic shifts may have acted as important driving forces of the Caatinga biota diversification.
