Diamond is a potential host material for laser applications due to its exceptional thermal properties, ultrawide bandgap, and color centers, which promise gain across the visible spectrum. More recently, coherent laser methods offer improved sensitivity for magnetometry. However, diamond fabrication is difficult in comparison to other crystalline matrices, and many optical loss channels are not yet understood.

Nitrogen-vacancy center magnetic imaging of FeO nanoparticles inside the gastrointestinal tract of .

Widefield magnetometry based on nitrogen-vacancy centers enables high spatial resolution imaging of magnetic field distributions without a need for spatial scanning. In this work, we show nitrogen-vacancy center magnetic imaging of FeO nanoparticles within the gastrointestinal tract of larvae. Vector magnetic field imaging based on optically detected magnetic resonance is carried out on dissected larvae intestine organs containing accumulations of externally loaded magnetic nanoparticles.

Absorption and birefringence study for reduced optical losses in diamond with high nitrogen-vacancy concentration.

The use of diamond colour centres such as the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centre is increasingly enabling quantum sensing and computing applications. Novel concepts like cavity coupling and readout, laser-threshold magnetometry and multi-pass geometries allow significantly improved sensitivity and performance via increased signals and strong light fields. Enabling material properties for these techniques and their further improvements are low optical material losses via optical absorption of signal light and low birefringence.

Impact of the 2018 revised Pregnancy Prevention Programme by the European Medicines Agency on the use of oral retinoids in females of childbearing age in Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, and Spain: an interrupted time series analysis.

In March 2018, the European pregnancy prevention programme for oral retinoids was updated as part of risk minimisation measures (RMM), emphasising their contraindication in pregnant women. To measure the impact of the 2018 revision of the RMMs in Europe by assessing the utilisation patterns of isotretinoin, alitretinoin and acitretin, contraceptive measures, pregnancy testing, discontinuation, and pregnancy occurrence concomitantly with a retinoid prescription. An interrupted time series (ITS) analysis to compare level and trend changes after the risk minimisation measures implementation was conducted on a cohort of females of childbearing age (12-55 years of age) from January 2010 to December 2020, derived from six electronic health data sources in four countries: Denmark, Netherlands, Spain, and Italy.

Validation of the Spanish version of DYsphagia in MUltiple Sclerosis questionnaire (DYMUS).

Background: Dysphagia is a common symptom in multiple sclerosis that can occur even early in the disease course and can lead to serious complications. Early recognition and treatment can promote comfort, safety and optimal nutritional status. Few dysphagia rating scales are available in Spanish.

Hepatotoxicity induced by isoniazid in patients with latent tuberculosis infection: a meta-analysis.

Aim: The aim of the present study was to conduct a meta-analysis of the frequency of isoniazid-induced liver injury (INH-ILI) in patients receiving isoniazid (INH) preventative therapy (IPT).

Background: The frequency of hepatotoxicity (drug-induced liver injury: DILI) of antituberculosis drugs has been studied, especially when INH, rifampin, and pyrazinamide are co-administered. However, little is known about the frequency of DILI in patients with latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), where IPT is indicated.

Chiral Ligands Based on Binaphthyl Scaffolds for Pd-Catalyzed Enantioselective C-H Activation/Cycloaddition Reactions.

We report the first examples of the use of a new class of ligands (NOBINAc) for performing asymmetric C-H activations using palladium catalysts. These ligands combine the axial chirality of binaphthyl scaffolds with the bifunctional and bidentate coordination properties of mono-N-protected amino acids (MPAAs), which are well-known to favor Pd-promoted C-H activations via concerted metalation-deprotonation mechanisms. We demonstrate that our new ligands enable substantially higher enantioselectivities than MPAAs in the assembly of 2-benzazepines through formal (5 + 2) cycloadditions between homobenzyltriflamides or -methylbenzyltriflamides and allenes.

Oxidative Stress in Structural Valve Deterioration: A Longitudinal Clinical Study.

The cause of structural valve deterioration (SVD) is unclear. Therefore, we investigated oxidative stress markers in sera from patients with bioprosthetic heart valves (BHVs) and their association with SVD. Blood samples were taken from SVD (Phase A) and BHV patients during the first 24 (Phase B1) and >48 months (Phase B2) after BHV implantation to assess total antioxidant capacity (TAC), malondialdehyde (MDA), and nitrotyrosine (NT).

Humoral and cellular response in convalescent COVID-19 lupus patients.

In SLE, underlying immune dysregulation and immunosuppression may increase the susceptibility to COVID-19 and impair the humoral and adaptive response. We aimed to characterize COVID-19 infection, identifying susceptibility and severity risk factors, assessing the presence of SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies and analyzing the cellular response. We established a prospective cohort of lupus patients to estimate the COVID-19 incidence compared to the reference general population.

Magnetic-field-dependent stimulated emission from nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond.

Negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond are promising magnetic field quantum sensors. Laser threshold magnetometry theory predicts improved NV center ensemble sensitivity via increased signal strength and magnetic field contrast. Here, we experimentally demonstrate laser threshold magnetometry.

Observation of the Decay Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ}.

The first observation of the semileptonic b-baryon decay Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ}, with a significance of 6.1σ, is reported using a data sample corresponding to 3  fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity, collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV at the LHC. The τ^{-} lepton is reconstructed in the hadronic decay to three charged pions.

Synergism interaction between genetic polymorphisms in drug metabolizing enzymes and NSAIDs on upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage: a multicenter case-control study.

Background: Interindividual genetic variations contribute to differences in patients' response to drugs as well as to the development of certain disorders. Patients who use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may develop serious gastrointestinal disorders, mainly upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage (UGIH). Studies about the interaction between NSAIDs and genetic variations on the risk of UGIH are scarce.

Adherence to Direct Oral Anticoagulants in Patients With Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation: A Cross-National Comparison in Six European Countries (2008-2015).

To describe and compare the adherence to different direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in eight European databases representing six countries. Longitudinal drug utilization study of new users (≥18 years) of DOACs (dabigatran, rivaroxaban, apixaban) with a diagnosis of non-valvular atrial fibrillation (2008-2015). Adherence was examined by estimating persistence, switching, and discontinuation rates at 12 months.

Antidepressant use and stroke or mortality risk in the elderly.

Background And Purpose: Current evidence on antidepressant-related stroke or mortality risk is inconsistent. Because the elderly have the highest exposure to antidepressants, the aim was to quantify their association with stroke and mortality risks in this vulnerable population.

Methods: Persons over 65 years old and registered in the Information System for Research in Primary Care of Catalonia during 2010-2015 comprised the study population.

A multicenter case-control study of the effect of e-nos VNTR polymorphism on upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage in NSAID users.

Bleeding in non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) users limited their prescription. This first multicenter full case-control study (325 cases and 744 controls), explored the association of e-NOS intron 4 variable number tandem repeat (VNTR) polymorphism with upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage (UGIH) in NSAID exposed and unexposed populations and assessed any interaction between this polymorphism and NSAIDs. NSAID users carrying e-NOS intron 4 wild type genotype or VNTR polymorphism have higher odds of UGIH than those unexposed to NSAIDs [Odds Ratio (OR): 6.

Assembly of Tetrahydroquinolines and 2-Benzazepines by Pd-Catalyzed Cycloadditions Involving the Activation of C(sp)-H Bonds.

Cycloaddition reactions are among the most practical strategies to assemble cyclic products; however, they usually require the presence of reactive functional groups in the reactants. Here, we report a palladium-catalyzed formal (4 + 2) cycloaddition that involves the activation of C(sp)-H bonds and provides a direct, unconventional entry to tetrahydroquinoline skeletons. The reaction utilizes amidotolyl precursors and allenes as annulation partners, and is catalyzed by Pd(II) precursors in combination with specific -acetylated amino acid ligands.

Objective: To conduct a metanalysis of the association between 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentration and SARS-CoV-2 infection severity or mortality.

Material And Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Google scholar and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews for studies published between December 2019 and December 2020.
