Awareness, Acceptability and Factors Influencing Malaria Vaccine Uptake Among Caregivers of Children Under 5 in South-Western Nigeria.

Background: Malaria remains a major cause of preventable deaths among children worldwide, despite the availability of several interventions for controlling and eliminating the disease. The WHO recommended the first malaria vaccine, RTS, S/AS01 in October 2021 to immunize children in sub-Saharan Africa. In this study, we set out to evaluate the knowledge, awareness and acceptability of the malaria vaccine among mothers of under 5 in south-west Nigeria before the vaccine's rollout in Nigeria.

Experience of Labour and Childbirth in a Sample of Portuguese Women: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background/objectives: Childbirth is a profoundly personal experience that often does not align with expectations. The World Health Organization has established guidelines for best practises; in this sense, it is crucial to understand the childbirth experiences of Portuguese women in comparison with these guidelines.

Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional study was conducted to achieve this.

In Silico Study of Interactions between the Methylene Blue Molecule and the (TiO) Cluster by Means of DFT Calculations.

In this work, the (TiO) cluster is proposed to adsorb the methylene blue (BM) dye; thus, the quantum parameters to explain the adsorption process are calculated by means of density functional theory calculations. Eight possible configurations are obtained and labeled from M1 to M8. According to the adsorption energy values, they reveal physisorption for at least two cases, and for the rest of the systems, they exhibit chemisorption.

Engineering highly productive cyanobacteria towards carbon negative emissions technologies.

Cyanobacteria are a diverse and ecologically important group of photosynthetic prokaryotes that contribute significantly to the global carbon cycle through the capture of CO as biomass. Cyanobacterial biotechnology could play a key role in a sustainable bioeconomy through negative emissions technologies (NETs), such as carbon sequestration or bioproduction. However, the primary issues of low productivities and high infrastructure costs currently limit the commercialisation of such applications.

Synechococcus sp. PCC 11901 (PCC 11901) is a fast-growing marine cyanobacterial strain that has a capacity for sustained biomass accumulation to very high cell densities, comparable to that achieved by commercially relevant heterotrophic organisms. However, genetic tools to engineer PCC 11901 for biotechnology applications are limited.

Realizing high stretch ratio of flexible wavy circuit via laser carving.

Stretchable wavy circuit is an essential component in flexible devices, which have wide applications in various fields. In the industrial field, the stretching ability of the circuit is a crucial factor for flexible devices. Therefore, this study proposes laser carving method to increase both stretch ratio and device resolution of the flexible device.

Placenta Accreta Spectrum Prenatal Diagnosis Performance: Are Ultrasound False-positive Results Acceptable in Limited-resources Settings?

Objective:  The immediate referral of patients with risk factors for placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) to specialized centers is recommended, thus favoring an early diagnosis and an interdisciplinary management. However, diagnostic errors are frequent, even in referral centers (RCs). We sought to evaluate the performance of the prenatal diagnosis for PAS in a Latin American hospital.

sp. PCC 11901 reportedly demonstrates the highest, most sustained growth of any known cyanobacterium under optimized conditions. Due to its recent discovery, our knowledge of its biology, including the factors underlying sustained, fast growth, is limited.

Clozapine-Induced Myocarditis in a Young Man with Refractory Schizophrenia: Case Report of a Rare Adverse Event and Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND Myocarditis is cardiac muscle inflammation caused by infectious or noninfectious agents. Rarely, clozapine, an atypical antipsychotic drug used to treat resistant schizophrenia, has been reported to cause myocarditis, as we report in this case. CASE REPORT A 29-year-old man, who was known to have schizophrenia and was on olanzapine therapy, presented in our Emergency Department with active psychosis, and was subsequently admitted to the psychiatric ward for refractory schizophrenia.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study analyzed the relationship between initial chest X-rays and initial laboratory tests in symptomatic adults with nasopharyngeal RT-PCR results positive for SARS-CoV-2 seen at our center between February 29 and March 23, 2020. Among other radiologic findings, we analyzed ground-glass opacities, consolidations, linear opacities, and pleural effusion.

Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome Presenting Atypically as a Non-Convulsive Seizure.

BACKGROUND Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES), also known as reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy, is a neurotoxic state with multiple etiologies characterized by altered mental state, headaches, visual abnormalities, and seizures. This clinico-radiological syndrome is rare, and a high index of suspicion is needed to diagnose, provide adequate treatment, and prevent irreversible neurological sequelae. CASE REPORT We present a case of a woman with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) who presented with acute confusion and non-convulsive seizures and was later diagnosed with PRES.

Intestinal Tuberculosis: A Diagnostic Challenge.

Diagnosing intestinal tuberculosis (TB) with uncommon clinical manifestations is often challenging. Here, we report a case of an alcoholic patient who presented with vague symptoms and was later diagnosed with intestinal TB. This patient experienced multiorgan failure causing hemodynamic instability requiring ionotropic support; acute hypoxic respiratory failure managed with non-invasive positive pressure ventilation, hepatic failure, transudative peritoneal effusion, and transudative pleural effusion.

Evaluating the Quality of Tuberculosis Contact Investigation in Cali, Colombia: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Tuberculosis (TB) contact investigation facilitates earlier TB diagnosis and initiation of preventive therapy, but little data exist about the quality of its implementation. We conducted a retrospective cohort study to evaluate processes of TB contact investigation for index TB patients diagnosed in Cali, Colombia, in 2017, including dropout at each stage and overall yield. We constructed multivariable models to identify predictors of completing 1) the baseline household visit and 2) a follow-up clinic visit for TB evaluation among referred contacts.

Risk Factors Related to New-Onset Diabetes after Renal Transplantation in Patients of a High Complexity University Hospital in Colombia, 20 Years of Experience.

Introduction: New-onset diabetes after transplantation (NODAT) is associated with immunosuppression. Its complications can negatively influence patients' quality of life, which is why it is important to study the associated risk factors and expand the possible therapies in this particular group of patients. .

Prenatal Diagnosis of Pfeiffer Syndrome Patient with FGFR2 C.940-1G>C Variant: A Case Report.

Background: Pfeiffer syndrome (PS) is an autosomal dominant disorder caused by mutations in fibroblast growth factor receptor FGFR1 and FGFR2 genes, occurring in approximately 1:100,000 live births. PS has a wide range of clinical expression and severity, so early prenatal diagnosis is difficult and genetic counseling is desirable. We describe a PS newborn with her ultrasound and molecular studies.

Glycemic Control and Hypoglycemia in Patients Treated with Insulin Pump Therapy: An Observational Study.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a highly prevalent disease worldwide. It has been associated with an important morbimortality due to its complications and sometimes as a result of adverse events related to treatment. Insulin pump therapy (IPT) is one of the options used to control this disease and reduces one of the most frequent complication associated with treatment: hypoglycemia, which has also a great impact on life quality and clinical status of patients.

Knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding dengue, chikungunya, and Zika in Cali, Colombia.

Dengue fever (DENF), chikungunya (CHIK), and Zika are responsible for the majority of the burden caused by vector-borne diseases (VBDs); which are produced by viruses primarily transmitted by the Aedes mosquito. Aedes have become prolific in urban areas due to a combination of climate change, rapid urbanization, increased human mobility, and globalization, causing the three VBDs to emerge in novel regions. Community knowledge can provide detailed insights about the spatial heterogeneity of disease risk and rates within a particular region, improving public health interventions.

Hypertension prevalence in Colombian Patients Evaluated with Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring According to Changes in Clinical Guidelines Between 2017-2018.

Introduction: The latest American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) Guidelines for high blood pressure in adults bring changes with lower cut-off points, creating socioeconomic issues in low and middle income countries. It is necessary to consider the changes that would have the adherence to these new guidelines in diagnosis and hypertension (HTN) control with ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), the gold standard for hypertension diagnosis.

Aim: To describe the changes in hypertension diagnosis and control according to the latest ACC/AHA guidelines, the European Society of Cardiology and European Society of Hypertension (ESC/ESH) and Latin-America Society of Hypertension (LASH) guidelines.

A Pilot Study on an Integrated Service Based on Wearable Textile Platforms to promote Workers Wellness at Workplace.

This paper describes a study performed in the frame of Wearables project and reports preliminary results. Objective of the study was the implementation of an integrated service finalized to increase employees' well-being through the investigation on the correlation between daily working activity and the observed physical parameters. The project monitored 28 volunteers employed in the field of waste collection (at the Amey's contract with Wolverhampton City Council), for a total of 275 data acquisition sessions.

Riedel's Thyroiditis: Report of Two Cases and Literature Review.

Riedel's thyroiditis is a rare entity consisting of a fibrotic process of the thyroid which can generate gland destruction, infiltration of cervical structures and even airway obstruction. It has been associated with systemic fibrotic disorders, autoimmune diseases, and more recently with spectrum of diseases related to excess of Immunoglobulin G type 4 (IgG4). Two cases of Riedel's thyroiditis by IgG4, confirmed by immunohistochemistry and was managed surgically with favorable results during the follow-up time, are presented.
