Bitter orange is a citrus fruit rich in bioactive compounds, but its waste is currently underutilized. One potential solution is to encapsulate these bioactive compounds. This research aims to synthesize gelatin nanoparticles loaded with an ethanolic extract of bitter orange peel and to evaluate their in vitro antioxidant and antibacterial activities.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA new family of monothiooxalamides derived from 2-aminobenzimidazole was synthesized, and their structures were confirmed by H and C one-dimensional and 2D NMR experiments (COSY, HSQC, and HMBC). The antioxidant capacity was evaluated by free radical scavenging assays: 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH•), 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical cation (ABTS•), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), and the Fe(II) chelating ability. Our work group has previously reported the synthesis and antioxidant activity of monothiooxalamides derived from 2-aminopyridine ().

However, it has been observed that colloidal systems formed from squid proteins have limited stability. Therefore, the isolation and characterization of the actomyosin-paramyosin isolated (API) complex were performed, because they are the main proteins to which functionality has been attributed.

The successful preparation of EGCG grafted-chitosan was verified by spectroscopic (UV, FTIR and XPS) and thermal (DSC and TGA) analyses. The degree of grafting of phenolic compounds onto the chitosan was determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu procedure.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA 4 x 3 factorial study was conducted to evaluate the effect of four experimental diets (a control diet and a 0, 50, and 100% fish meal replacement diet) and the period of time Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, were fed those diets (0, 20, and 40 days) on the alkaline proteolytic activity of the animals' digestive tract, as well as their potential interaction. Significant differences (at P < 0.05) and a significant interaction were observed among dietary treatments for the alkaline proteolytic activity of tilapia after 40 days of feeding.
