Clinical Hypnosis and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Hot Flashes: A Scoping Review.

Background: Hot flashes can be a prevalent issue for postmenopausal women, but traditional treatments such as hormone therapy can have adverse side effects. Recommended psychotherapies for managing hot flashes include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and clinical hypnosis, but an in-depth review comparing the efficacy of both treatments is warranted.

Objectives: The aim of the present scoping review was to assess the clinical significance and efficacy of symptom reduction of CBT and clinical hypnosis as treatments of hot flashes.

Heart Rate Variability, Hypnosis, and Psychotherapy.

Hypnotherapy is increasingly recognized as an effective treatment option for a wide range of psychological conditions and the psychological elements of physiologic health concerns. Despite its growing use, the mechanisms underlying hypnotherapy's therapeutic benefits remain unknown. Heart rate variability (HRV), a non-invasive biomarker of autonomic nervous system (ANS) activity and other processes relevant to the psychophysiological stress response, has been used to study the physiological effects of hypnosis.

Hypnosis Intervention for Sleep Disturbances in Individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment: A Randomized Pilot Study.

Poor sleep quality is highly prevalent among individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Further, poor sleep quality is associated with reduced quality of life, increased stress response, memory impairments, and progression to dementia among individuals with MCI. Pharmacological treatments for sleep have mixed efficacy and can lead to dependency.

Adaptation of the Russian Version of the Elkins Hypnotizability Scale.

Until now, there has been an acute shortage of valid and reliable tools in Russia for making an accurate and highly differentiable assessment of hypnotizability. However, numerous studies confirm the high efficiency, reliability, and accuracy of the Elkins Hypnotizability Scale (EHS), allowing it to claim the title of the new gold standard for assessing hypnotizability. In the present study, the original English-language version of the EHS was translated into Russian.
