In an effort to tackle fragmented care in the US healthcare delivery system, we explored the use of learning collaborative (LC) to advance integration of behavioral health and primary care as one of the potential solutions to a holistic approach to the delivery of quality healthcare to individuals with physical and mental illness. Article Synopsis
  • Early detection of colorectal cancer (CRC) can decrease mortality rates significantly, especially since screening is recommended for average-risk adults starting at 50; however, African Americans face higher mortality rates and lower screening rates compared to whites.
  • A study was conducted to explore how social networks can help encourage CRC screening among African Americans, with the hypothesis that better social connections would lead to higher screening rates.
  • Results indicated that participants in a small group educational intervention had greater social network diversity and interaction compared to other groups, suggesting that these social connections contribute to better screening rates after the intervention.
