Aims: In the Amazon region, pastures are the main land use subsequent to deforestation and this change can result in soil acidification and degradation. Liming is a management practice to increase soil pH, important to recover degraded lands and increase soil fertility, but its impacts on soil methane cycling in tropical soils is unknown. Here we investigate the role of soil pH on methane uptake under high concentrations of the gas, manipulating pasture and forest soils pH by liming and evaluating the active methane cycling microbial community.

Recent studies indicate that deltamethrin can induce cardiotoxicity. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the toxicity of deltamethrin in dogs through exposure to commercial collars over 8 months.

Here, we show that the regulation of TEOSINTE BRANCHED1/CYCLOIDEA/PCF (TCP) LANCEOLATE (TCP2/LA) by miR319 is crucial for tomato fruit morphology. The loss of miR319 regulation in the semi-dominant La mutant led to a premature SlTCP2/LA expression during gynoecium patterning, which results in modified cell division during carpel development.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by a wide variety of symptoms, including frequent neurological and psychiatric symptomatology. Psychiatric symptoms encountered in SLE are frequent, between 37 and 95% of SLE patients present them, can appear at any point in the course of the disease and may include almost any type of disorder. We present the case of a 32-year-old woman who presented an SLE debut with catatonic symptoms without previous psychiatric history, representing a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge given that the diagnosis was initially wrongly filtered out and required up to three hospital admissions in a row to reach a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Patients And Methods: The ALTTO trial (NCT00490139) is a prospective randomized, phase III, open-label, multicenter study that investigated the role of adjuvant chemotherapy and trastuzumab alone, in combination or sequentially with lapatinib.
Background And Goal: Vaccination against influenza is widespread worldwide, reducing complications associated with infection. However, the impact of vaccination on mortality/ICU admission in hospitalized patients has been little studied.
Material And Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted on 238 patients hospitalized for influenza from October 2023 to January 2024 to evaluate the vaccine's effectiveness in terms of the combined event of ICU admission/mortality during hospitalization.
Radiolytically generated radicals cause degradation of nutrients in food, materials in satellites and solar cells, and human health. Radiation effects are studied using gamma radiolysis, a low-throughput, high-cost, and low-accessibility method. We developed a higher-throughput, low-cost, non-radioactive, radical assay that produces radicals similar to those generated in gamma radiolysis and examined monoamide degradation.

Objective: This project aimed to improve gastrostomy management in a semi-intensive care unit of a private hospital in São Paulo, Brazil.
Methods: This study followed the JBI Evidence Implementation Framework.
The reproductive efficiency of the herd is correlated with higher productivity in livestock. Reproduction biotechniques, such as ovulation synchronization protocols, are important to optimize production and accelerate genetic profit in beef and dairy herds. The objective of this review is to describe the evolution over the last 40 years of the artificial insemination (AI) and the timed-AI (TAI) protocols in cattle from a Brazilian perspective.

A retrospective cohort study in Alicante, Spain. A total of 1,516 patient records were examined, finding that older individuals and women experienced more LVP-related events.

This idea can be questioned as generalism may be a result rather than the cause of species abundance and range size. We tested these contrasting causal hypotheses focusing on host use in three databases encompassing approximately 44,000 mutualistic (hummingbird-plant), commensalistic (lichen-plant) and parasitic (flea-mammal) interactions in 617 ecological communities across the Americas and Eurasia.

Methods: Retrospective and single center study conducted on consecutive patients who underwent a XEN45 implant, either alone or in combination with cataract surgery, between November 2016 and October 2021. The primary endpoint was the mean intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering from preoperative values.
Objectives: This case series aims to evaluate the long-term outcomes of congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in a population treated with valaciclovir during pregnancy. The study focuses on assessing the prevalence of long-term sequelae in infants with confirmed CMV fetal infection.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 33 pregnancies corresponding to 34 fetus with confirmed CMV congenital infection.
Background: The use of technological innovations in ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) care networks has been shown to be effective in improving information flow and coordination, and thus reducing the time to reperfusion. We developed a smartphone application called ODISEA to improve our STEMI care network and evaluated the results of its use.
Method: Quasi-experimental study that compared the outcomes of STEMI suspected patients with an alert and indication for transfer to a cath lab during a previous period and a period in which the ODISEA APP was used.
Zebrafish larvae have emerged as a valuable model for studying heart physiology and pathophysiology, as well as for drug discovery, in part thanks to its transparency, which simplifies microscopy. However, in fluorescence-based optical mapping, the beating of the heart results in motion artifacts. Two approaches have been employed to eliminate heart motion during calcium or voltage mapping in zebrafish larvae: the knockdown of cardiac troponin T2A and the use of myosin inhibitors.

The regioselectivity of nucleophilic substitution reactions at the periphery of the tetrafluorinated BOPYPY and its α-bromo derivative were investigated using N-, O-, S-, and C-based nucleophiles. Among the aromatic fluorine atoms, the F atom is consistently regioselectively substituted, except when the α-position contains a thiophenol group; in this case, F is substituted instead due to stabilizing π-π-stacking between the two aromatic groups.

However, survival outcomes associated with both strategies remain understudied. We aimed to compare the axillary lymphadenectomy (ALND) rate, disease-free survival (DFS), and overall survival (OS), between two strategies.

How do they incorporate daylength information into their routine physiological processes? Photoperiodism, or the capacity to measure the daylength, is a crucial aspect of plant development that helps plants determine the best time of the year to make vital decisions, such as flowering. The protein CONSTANS (CO) constitutes the central regulator of this sensing mechanism, not only activating florigen production in the leaves but also participating in many physiological aspects in which seasonality is important. Recent discoveries place CO in the center of a gene network that can determine the length of the day and confer seasonal input to aspects of plant development and physiology as important as senescence, seed size, or circadian rhythms.
