The transsulfuration pathway (TSP) is a metabolic pathway involving sulfur transfer from homocysteine to cysteine. Transsulfuration pathway leads to many sulfur metabolites, principally glutathione, HS, taurine, and cysteine. Key enzymes of the TSP, such as cystathionine β-synthase and cystathionine γ-lyase, are essential regulators at multiple levels in this pathway.

Glibenclamide is an anti-hyperglycaemic drug that is commonly used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and has promising new medical indications. However, this drug is associated with high rates of serious hypoglycaemic episodes as a result of its pharmacological activity. Administering the drug through controlled release delivery systems could reduce the incidence of these episodes.
