Background: Several studies have evaluated different cell cycle synchronization methods to improve reprogramming efficiency aimed at wild species conservation. The six-banded armadillo is one of the wild mammals with significant ecological and biomedical interests but has not yet been evaluated for reprogramming purposes.
Objective: We investigated the effects in a time-dependent manner of serum starvation (SS; 0.
Seabirds are particularly susceptible to potentially toxic elements (PTEs) due to the tendency of biomagnification of some elements, thus serving as potential bioindicators for assessing environmental health. In this study, we analyzed As, Cd, Cu and Zn concentrations in liver samples from nine seabird species (51 specimens) collected along the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean. Results revealed substantial variations in PTE concentrations among species, with taxonomic orders influencing accumulation patterns.

These properties play crucial roles in combating chronic diseases linked to oxidative stress and antimicrobial resistance. This review aimed to summarize the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of probiotics determined in in vitro studies and discuss mechanistic actions and analysis methods.

Despite being one of the world's largest pesticide consumers, monitoring and assessment of pesticide pollution are limited in Brazil, especially in sensitive regions like the Amazon. In this study, the occurrence and environmental risks of 8 pesticides of different classes, namely alachlor, atrazine, chlorfenvinphos, isoproturon, irgarol, simazine, diuron, and its transformation product DCPMU (1-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-3-methyl urea) were analysed in surface water of the São Marcos Estuarine Complex (SMEC) in two consecutive years.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of a long-acting recombinant human FSH (rhFSH, corifollitropin-alpha) to induce ovarian stimulation in Nelore breed (Bos indicus) calves and prepubertal heifers prior to ovum pick-up (OPU) for in vitro embryo production (IVEP). In Experiment 1, a dose-response trial was performed to determine the optimal dose of rhFSH, which was determined to be 10 μg. In Experiment 2, 6-7 mo old calves were randomly allocated to receive rhFSH either via sc (n = 5) or im (n = 5).

The catalog includes detailed geographic distribution data for all species, along with new records and photographs (including two paratypes of Cryptostetha pereirai Bechyně, 1958, with descriptions of the aedeagus and spermatheca). Furthermore, information is provided on host plants, parasites, parasitoids, and predators associated with certain species.

Methods: This experiment was conducted at two commercial beef farms (A, = 477; and B, = 673), which were selected due to their records of endemic brucellosis and a prevalence of 6 to 8% of seropositive cows. An initial serology screening (Day 0) was carried out in all cows using the Rose Bengal test (RB), and presumptive positive results were re-evaluated using a slow agglutination test with 2-mercaptoethanol (2-ME).

The success of somatic cell cryobanks is dependent on establishing reproducible cryopreservation methodologies. We supposed that associated extracellular cryoprotectants (sucrose and L-proline) with 2.5 or 10 % dimethyl sulfoxide (MeSO) could guarantee better northern tiger cat cells quality rates after thawing when compared to MeSO alone.

Invasive species pose significant ecological and economic threats globally. Zaprionus tuberculatus Malloch, a drosophilid fruit fly native to the Afrotropical region and Indian Ocean islands, is included in the pest list of the Center for Agriculture and Bioscience (CABI) because it uses fruit as breeding sites and can damage cultivated areas. This fly species extended its range across Europe in the late 20th century; in 2020, it was recorded in South America, and currently, it is widely distributed in Brazil.

The experimental spectroscopic analyses were corroborated by density functional theory (DFT). Furthermore, these properties were evaluated using an implicit solvation method with water and methanol solvents, including vacuum condition.

X-ray diffraction (XRPD) confirmed that this complex crystallizes with an orthorhombic structure (222 space group). Thermal analyses (TG and DTA) demonstrate stability from ambient temperature up to 460 K, followed by a phase transition from the orthorhombic structure to the amorphous form around 465 K, as confirmed by temperature-dependent XRPD studies.

The ever-evolving procedures of the practice of in vitro production (IVP) of embryos has well outpaced the ability of governments and institutions to create standardized rules and regulations around the global trade of these reproductive products. There are several challenges related to identifying and quantifying disease transmission risk in IVP embryos, not the least of which is a lack of published information. The International Embryo Technology Society (IETS) Health and Safety Advisory Committee (HASAC) has identified and addressed several of the challenges related to the potential for disease transmission via IVP embryos.

Embryo technologies have been used over the past three decades globally in most relevant farm species. From a sanitary perspective, embryos collected in vivo have long been recognized as the safest way to trade livestock germplasm, as long as the IETS washing and, if recommended, trypsin-decontaminating procedures are adopted. On the other hand, a number of questions have been raised about the safety of embryos produced in vitro, frequently inhibiting the international commerce of these embryos.

The establishment of fibroblast lines enables several applications from the formation of biobanks for the conservation of biodiversity to the use of these cells in physiological and toxicological assays. Considered a species vulnerable to extinction, the characterization of fibroblastic lines of northern tiger cat would contribute to its conservation. Therefore, we established and characterized fibroblasts derived from northern tiger cat during extended passage (third, seventh, and eleventh passages) and cryopreservation with regard to the morphology, viability, apoptotic classification, metabolism, proliferative activity, and oxidative stress by reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm).

In Experiment 1, Nelore suckling cows (n = 224) were enrolled in an estradiol-progesterone-based timed artificial insemination (TAI) protocol. At TAI, cows were separated based on the range of POF diameters, as follows: ≤11.
