Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with an increased risk of cognitive impairment. This cognitive impairment is associated with an increased permeability of blood-brain barrier (BBB) in rodents with CKD, linked to activation of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) by indoxyl sulphate (IS). The objective of the BREIN study was to confirm the increased BBB permeability in humans with CKD.

Toward acid- and heparin-free dialysis: the regional anticoagulation approach.

Background: In chronic intermittent hemodialysis, heparin is the standard anticoagulant as is the use of acid-containing dialysate. Regional anticoagulation (RA) with a calcium-free, citrate-containing dialysate has been developed. We compared RA using a calcium-free, citrate-free dialysate, routinely used in our center, versus systemic heparinization.

The AO classification system for tibial plateau fractures: An independent inter and intraobserver agreement study.

Purpose: Classifying tibial plateau fractures is paramount in determining treatment regimens and systemizing decision making. The original AO classification described by Müller in 1996 and the Schatzker classification of 1970 are the most cited classifications for tibial plateau fractures, demonstrating substantial to almost perfect agreement. The main problem with these classifications schemes is that they lack the detail required to convey the variety of fracture patterns encountered.

We retrospectively studied 96 TKA, performed by a single surgeon, using a femoral tailored intramedullary guide technique. Seventeen were prior to the use of the EHL and 79 used the EHL tendon to position the EMTG.

We studied 217 patients evaluated with abdominal-pelvic magnetic resonance imaging; we looked for high-intensity zone, disc degeneration, spondylolysis, spondylolisthesis, Modic changes and scoliosis.

In this paper, we propose YoTube-a novel deep learning framework for generating action proposals in untrimmed videos, where each action proposal corresponds to a spatial-temporal tube that potentially locates one human action. Aims: Femoral stems with exchangeable (modular) necks were introduced to offer surgeons an increased choice when determining the version, offset and length of the femoral neck during total hip arthroplasty (THA). It was hoped that this would improve outcomes and reduce complications, particularly dislocation. Cavernous sinus syndrome due to metastatic renal cell carcinoma.

We describe a 49-year-old woman with a history of metastatic renal cell carcinoma and classic signs and symptoms of left-sided cavernous sinus syndrome. A case of acute undifferentiated myelocytic leukemic with trisomy 4 is described. The patient is a 61-year-old woman who developed leukemia 4 1/2 years after receiving radiation therapy for uterine carcinoma. Many leukemic cells exhibited hand-mirror configuration after the bone marrow aspirate was left at room temperature overnight.
