Of the five human antibody isotypes, the function of IgD is the least well-understood, although various studies point to a role for IgD in mucosal immunity. IgD is also the least well structurally characterized isotype. Until recently, when crystal structures were reported for the IgD Fab, the only structural information available was a model for intact IgD based on solution scattering data.

Expanding the Anti-Phl p 7 Antibody Toolkit: An Anti-Idiotype Nanobody Inhibitor.

We have previously produced a toolkit of antibodies, comprising recombinant human antibodies of all but one of the human isotypes, directed against the polcalcin family antigen Phl p 7. In this work, we complete the toolkit of human antibody isotypes with the IgD version of the anti-Phl p 7 monoclonal antibody. We also raised a set of nanobodies against the IgD anti-Phl p 7 antibody and identify and characterize one paratope-specific nanobody.

Sternal Abnormalities on Thoracic Radiographs of Dogs and Cats.

Evaluation of the sternum is part of the routine examination of small animal thoracic radiographs. However, descriptions on frequency and type of abnormalities are lacking. This retrospective observational study aimed to describe abnormal radiographic findings of the sternum in a cross-section of client-owned dogs and cats undergoing thoracic radiography between 1 January 2019 and 1 January 2021 for reasons unrelated to diseases of the sternum.

Structural basis for a conserved neutralization epitope on the receptor-binding domain of SARS-CoV-2.

Antibody-mediated immunity plays a crucial role in protection against SARS-CoV-2 infection. Closure of a Thoracic Aortic Graft Pseudoaneurysm With an Amplatzer Septal Occluder.

We describe the case of a young man 7 weeks postoperative from repair of a Stanford type A aortic dissection who developed an expanding pseudoaneurysm of the proximal graft anastomosis. Owing to the morbidity and mortality associated with reoperation, an interdisciplinary team of interventional cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons implanted an Amplatzer septal occluder device in a hybrid operating room, successfully excluding the defect from the true lumen of the aorta. This case highlights the utility of a team approach and creative thinking for the treatment of a pseudoaneurysm in a high-risk, recently postoperative patient.

One of the shortcomings of current treatment of nerve agent poisoning is that not all drugs effectively penetrate the blood-brain barrier (BBB), whereas most nerve agents easily do. P-glycoprotein (Pgp) efflux transporters at the BBB may contribute to this aspect. It was previously shown that Pgp inhibition by tariquidar enhanced the efficacy of nerve agent treatment when administered as a pretreatment.
