The examination of 1519 children aged 1-7 years attending kindergartens has revealed ENT pathology in 46 of 100 examinees. Pharyngeal diseases were encountered in 74.3% of cases with ENT pathology.

An analysis of maximal and minimal serum concentrations of carbamazepine was performed in 40 children with convulsive syndrome. All the patients received the drug for a long period. Considerable case-to-case differences of serum concentrations in spite of practically equal doses were revealed.

The drug encorat, an analogue of valproic acid (Sun, India) was given to 16 children aged from 4 month to 5 years suffering from resistant forms of early infantile epilepsy. Twelve of them had infantile spasms, four Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. The treatment produced good results in 75% of the patients.

The article summarizes the first experience gained by the Chair of Social Pediatrics established in 1986 at the Faculty of Postgraduate training of Physicians to LPHI.
