[Is cobalt-binding capacity of serum a new perspective diagnostic marker?].

The aim of this study was to determine the reference interval of serum cobalt-binding capacity (CoBC) and to estimate the effect of factors unrelated to oxidative modification of serum albumin on this diagnostic marker. A group of healthy volunteers (n=194), a group of patients with autoimmune diseases (n=44) and a group of patients with diabetes type 2 (n=50) participated in this study. The regional reference interval was found to be 0,462-0,744 mmol Co 2+ /l of serum.

[The algorithms of evaluation of economic effectiveness of laboratory technologies].

The article considers several practical situations requiring estimation of economic effectiveness. The protocols of estimation, costs and effectiveness accounting requirements of practical public health are proposed. The necessity of development of correct epidemiological model is demonstrated to estimate profit of innovations of diagnostic stage.

[The characteristics of interpretation of results of analysis of protein amount in urine of pregnant women].

The adequacy of implementation of present proteinuria diagnostic thresholds under examination of pregnant women was examined. The analysis was applied to all urine samples of pregnant women from December 2009 to March 20010. The amount of protein in urine was concurrently evaluated by turbidimetric analysis with sulfosalicylic acid, colorimetric analysis with pyrogallol red, "dry chemistry" technology (the diagnostic strips).

[The alteration of threshold of clinical decision making in connection with the implementation of direct detection of cholesterol-low density lipoproteins in laboratory practice].

The retrospective study included 494 patients (the triglycerides level was less than 4.2 mole per liter) examined during January-March 2010 in four medical institutions of Volgograd and Voljsky. The comparative analysis was made of results of the Friedewald equation test and direct test of cholesterol-low density lipoproteins in the same samples.

Effect of Citrocard on functional activity of cardiomyocyte mitochondria during chronic alcohol intoxication.

Chronic administration of 50% ethanol in a dose of 8 g/kg produces a toxic effect on functional activity of cardiomyocyte mitochondria, which manifested in decreased rates of respiration and oxidative phosphorylation. Structural GABA analogue Citrocard (phenibut citrate) and reference preparation piracetam in doses of 50 and 200 mg/kg, respectively, prevented the damaging effect of alcohol, which was seen from increased indexes of oxidative phosphorylation in treated animals compared to the control group.

[Functional-behavioral profile of new cyclic GABA analogs in acute toxicity tests].

The properties of karphedone and phepyrone--new phenyl derivatives of pyrrolidone possessing nootropic activity--were studied in the course of the acute toxicity tests on rats. The drug effects were evaluated in terms of their integral influence on the state and behavior of test animals. The real therapeutic range and the profit/risk ratio of karphedone were comparable with those of the reference drug pyracetam and exceeded by a factor of 1.

[Preclinical prognosis of pyracetam and picamilon safety based on acute toxicity data].

A comparative acute toxicity test of the nootropic drugs piracetam and picamilon was performed on rats. The study was based on the principles of integral evaluation of the drug effect upon the functional and behavioral state of animals. It was found that the conventional therapeutic index does not coincide with the actual therapeutic activity range.

[Complex evaluation of the effect of bromantane on animal behavior].

The results of experimental investigation of the effect of bromantan on the behavioral activity of rats in the open-field test were treated by a combination of the discriminant and dispersion methods. The toxic effect of the drug on the neurogenic (neurologic) mechanisms conducting the behavior is evaluated.

[An acute toxicity study of bromantane].

The toxicity of bromantan was evaluated by conventional acute tests (according to Belen'kiĭ) and by the behavioral activity data (according to Irvin). A method of integral graphical representation of the behavioral activity data is suggested, according to which the results are plotted as a "dose trajectory." Using the dose trajectory constructed for bromantan, the levels of therapeutic, toxic, and lethal doses were calculated.

[Surgical correction of early forms of funnel chest in children with Marfan's and Ehlers-Danlos syndromes].

A prophylactic trend was developed in surgical treatment of funnel chest on basis of a syndromal approach to solution of applied problems of clinical medicine. Patients with an established diagnosis of progressive funnel deformity underwent early prophylactic sparing one-stage thoracoplasty according to the authors' own method, which made it possible to prevent progress of the deformity in the early stage; such treatment had a positive effect on further physical and mental development of the child. Besides, the method of operation had a lesser injurious effect and reduced the number of complications; it also considerably reduced the expenditures and shortened the period of treatment.

Characterization of costal cartilage collagen in funnel chest.

Parallel measurements of pyridinoline content, the ratio of soluble:insoluble collagen, and the percentage of endogenous collagenolysis were made in samples of costal cartilage from forty-five children with funnel chest (FC) and from twenty-two control children. From an analysis of the influence of different factors, such as FC type (isolated or syndromic), a diagnosed syndrome, extent of FC depression (second or third), and age, two biochemical variants of FC-variants a and b, which were not related to the presence or absence of a known concurrent syndrome, were distinguished. These variants differed from each other in all the parameters under study.

[Early diagnosis of progression of funnel chest in children].

104 patients with progressive forms of funnel chest deformity of the II-III degree with Ehlers-Danlos-Marfan syndrome, Marfan-like phenotype, isolated funnel chest deformity and unclassified funnel chest deformity of the first degree were subjected to synromologic examination. There were detected 10 dysplastic signs, indicating funnel chest deformity progression: anti-Mongol shape of the eyes, arachnodactyly, high palate, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, floor of the auricle's dysplasia, dolichostenomely, posture disturbance, mitral valve prolapse, umbilical hernia, wide filter. The results of biochemical examination of collagen metabolite--hydroxyproline++ (the first and the second hydroxyproline++ fraction ratio disturbance, decrease of the first hydroxyproline++ fraction percentage, disturbance of direct correlation between total hydroxyproline++ and percentage of the first hydroxyproline++ fraction)--corroborated the clinical data.

[The effect of a fluorocarbon emulsion--an enzyme inducer of the cytochrome P-450-dependent monooxygenase system of the liver--on the acute toxicity of CCl4 and on the efficacy of the prophylactic use of antidotes in organophosphate pesticide poisoning].

The effect of intraperitoneal administration of perfluorocarbon emulsion, an inducer of cytochrome P-450-dependent monoxygenase system of the liver, on the resistance of rodents to the action of CCl4 and organophosphorus pesticides was studied. Perfluorocarbon emulsion potentiated CCl4 toxicity decreasing LD50 from 4.5 to 3.

[Conformation analysis of oligosaccharide determinants of group substances with Le specificity].

Theoretical conformational analysis of the tri- and tetrasaccharides determining group specificity Lea, Leb, and H has been carried out. It is shown that these oligosaccharides are structurally rigid systems and in aqueous solution are present predominantly (statistical weight greater than 95%) in the only conformation.

[Disruption of DNA synthesis and structure of mouse L1210 leukemia cells, sensitive and resistant to 1-methyl-1 nitrosourea and 1,3-bis(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea in vivo].

Leukemia L1210 cells with acquired resistance to 1-methyl-1-nitrosourea (MNU) (L1210/MNU) and 1.3-bis(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea (BCNU) (L1210/BCNU) were developed from leukemia L1210 cells sensitive to these drugs (L1210/0). The modal chromosome number of leukemia L1210/MNU and L1210/BCNU cells increases from 40 (L1210/0) to 41.

[Conformation analysis of carbohydrate chains of group-specific substances].

Theoretical conformational analysis of bi- and three-antennary carbohydrate chains of H-specific group substances has been carried out. It has been shown that O-glycosylating oligosaccharides can form compact Y-shaped structures with effective non-bonded interactions between the antennae residues.

[RNA-polymerase of murine leukemia L1210 cells].

Multiple forms of RNA polymerases (I, II and III) from murine leukemia L1210 cells are solubilized, purified and characterized. Heterogeneity of RNA polymerases I and III is revealed by chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex and Phosphocellulose (P-11). The properties of these forms such as peculiarities of transcription of native and denaturated DNA, metal ion dependence (Mg2+, Mn2+ and (NH4)2SO4) and alpha-amanitin sensitivity resemble those reported for other mammalian RNA polymerases.
