Corynebacterium macginleyi is a gram positive rod that causes especially ocular infections: since now only six elderly cases of extraocular infection are described. A 76 years old bedridden woman with a central venous catheter was hospitalized for 10 days of persistent fever. She was treated before with vancomicin and then with imipenem.

Its incidence among older people has risen worldwide due to an increase in risk factors such as renal diseases, metabolic syndrome, and a diet rich in purines. In older age, tophaceous gout may affect different joints from its classical presentation, due to other concomitant musculoskeletal diseases, but specific data on its epidemiology and clinical aspects in the elderly are limited to a few case reports.

In a group of 51 elderly women (aged 76.4 ± 5.

We report a case of massive tophaceous gout in a 78-year-old man with a 16-year-long history of untreated disease. The patient gradually became disabled, his renal function deteriorated, and he finally died of sepsis.

Methods: A total of 2431 audiometric tests were performed in 708 workers (in 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994 and 1999). Audiometric tests were classified so that hearing loss could be assessed over time.

This paper reviews several procedures for determination of mercapturic acids in urine. Special attention was paid to methods useful in relation to human exposure to industrial pollutants, without any description for less sensitive methods used in animal research. Gas chromatographic and liquid chromatographic procedures were considered together with the little information available about thin layer chromatography and immunochemical techniques.

Human biotransformation of the industrial solvent N,N-dimethylformamide gives raise to N-acetyl-S-(N-methylcarbamoyl)cysteine (AMCC) which has the longest half-life (about 23 h) among urinary metabolites of N,N-dimethylformamide. It could be used for monitoring industrial exposure over several workdays, by measuring it in urine samples collected at the end of the working week. This is consistent with the suggestions of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, which established a limit of 40 mg/l for the year 2000.

In some cases it is favoured by occupational exposure to vibration of the upper arms. The diagnosis of Raynaud's phenomenon requires clinical information together with specific technical investigations.
