Introduction: Chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) represents a widely underdiagnosed and often poorly treated medical problem, affecting 10-50% of all surgical patients, exhibiting neuropathic features in 35-60%. It is hypothesised that surgery-induced tissue damage and the subsequent immune response cause sensory alterations in the early postoperative period, ultimately leading to a chronic neuropathic or nociplastic pain state. The 'Sensory Changes and Immunological parameters in Postsurgical pain' study (SCIP-Pain study) was designed to test this hypothesis and identify sensory alterations and changes in the immunological response that are related to the development of CPSP with neuropathic features.

Background: Low endogenous immunoglobulin(Ig)-levels are common in critically ill patients with sepsis, but it is unknown whether low Ig-levels are associated with poor outcome, and in which patients Ig-replacement therapy (IgRT) improves outcome. Given the crucial role of immunoglobulins in eliminating certain encapsulated pathogens, we examined the relationship between serial Ig-levels and disease course in critically ill patients with community acquired pneumonia (sCAP) caused by encapsulated or other pathogens.

Methods: We included a cohort of consecutive critically ill patients with CAP, and PaO/FiO-ratio < 200 with or without septic shock, from an existing biorepository where microbiological causes of infection had been adjudicated in a protocolized manner.

Background: Patients with acute stroke are at risk of respiratory or circulatory compromise resulting in vital instability, which can be captured through the widely used aggregated National Early Warning Score (NEWS). To compare mental, cognitive and physical outcomes between COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients, 3-6 months after Intensive Care Unit (ICU) treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic and to compare mental outcomes between relatives of these patients. This retrospective cohort study included 209 ICU survivors (141 COVID-19 patients and 68 non-COVID-19 patients) and 168 of their relatives (maximum one per patient) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Climate change affects timing of reproduction in many bird species, but few studies have investigated its influence on annual reproductive output. Here, we assess changes in the annual production of young by female breeders in 201 populations of 104 bird species (N = 745,962 clutches) covering all continents between 1970 and 2019. Overall, average offspring production has declined in recent decades, but considerable differences were found among species and populations.

Introduction: Mutations affecting the RAS-MAPK pathway occur frequently in relapsed neuroblastoma tumors and are associated with response to MEK inhibition . However, these inhibitors alone do not lead to tumor regression , indicating the need for combination therapy.
