The majority of patients with advanced esophageal or gastric cancer do not start palliative systemic treatment. To gain insight into the considerations underlying the decision not to start systemic treatment, we analyzed characteristics of patients starting and not starting systemic treatment, reasons for not starting systemic treatment, and receipt of local palliative treatments on a nationwide scale. Patients diagnosed with advanced esophageal or gastric cancer between 2015 and 2021 were included (n = 10,948).

This hinders the possibility of applying targeted preventive therapies. This study explores the use of vital signs, including cerebral and splanchnic oxygenation, measured with near-infrared spectroscopy in early NEC prediction.

In 40% of cases, its rapid progression renders conservative treatment insufficient, necessitating laparotomy as the sole viable option for survival. However, high perioperative and postoperative mortality rates, along with severe future potential disabilities and suffering, can complicate the decision of whether surgery is still in the infant's best interest.

We investigated the feasibility of adding an SLN procedure to a diagnostic navigation bronchoscopy. : Thirty-one patients were included for injection of Tc-nanocolloid and an iodinated contrast agent intra-/peritumorally and assessment of tracer dissipation via SPECT and CBCT imaging.

These results were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) congress in June 2017 and published in April 2019. However, adoption of novel treatments in clinical practice often encounters delays.

Background: Identification of groups at a high risk of gastric cancer could facilitate targeted screening in countries with a low gastric cancer incidence. Our aim was to identify such high-risk groups based on individual-level population data on migration history and socioeconomic status (SES) in the Netherlands.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, patient data from the Netherlands Cancer Registry were linked to demographic data of Statistics Netherlands in the period 2010 to 2022.
Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography-guided navigation bronchoscopy (CBCT-NB) with augmented fluoroscopy (AF) guidance represents a minimally invasive endobronchial technique for diagnosing small, peripheral pulmonary lesions. This approach is characterized by its high diagnostic accuracy and low complication risk. Current pilot trials are exploring the application of localized therapies using this innovative approach.

This study compares the clinical outcome and response to chemotherapy between patients with resectable muc-GC, intestinal (int-GC) and diffuse (dif-GC) gastric cancer.
Methods: Patients from the D1/D2 study or the CRITICS trial were included in exploratory surgery-alone (SAtest) or chemotherapy test (CTtest) cohorts.

The Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) programme hypothesizes that a compact machine offers a route to reduced capital cost that directly tackles the barrier to entry of this potentially transformative technology. History has shown that with an unsolved, complex and highly interdependent design challenge, there is a need to balance exploration of the problem with progress. Almost all complex systems arise from the evolutionary improvement of simpler systems which is an approach the programme has adopted by working through a virtual natural selection of design families towards a single concept consistent with the initiating hypothesis.

Methods: Patients staged with cT4bM0 esophageal cancer who were registered in the Netherlands Cancer Registry (NCR) were included.
Background: Since 2016, staging laparoscopy has been implemented in the diagnostic workup of patients with gastric cancer. Staging laparoscopy aims to detect incurable disease (peritoneal metastases and irresectable tumors) and to prevent futile laparotomies.
Methods: In this population-based nationwide study, we sought patient- and tumor characteristics associated with undergoing a staging laparoscopy.
Background: Palliative systemic treatment is currently standard of care for metastatic gastric cancer. However, patients with peritoneal metastases of gastric origin are often underrepresented in clinical studies due to unmeasurable radiologic disease. This study describes the systemic treatment strategies and outcomes in patients with peritoneal metastases in a nationwide real-world setting.

This popularity links inextricably to an increase in ionizing radiation use. Knowing ionizing radiation is hazardous, knowledge and competent use of X-ray imaging and guidance systems are important.

In this study, we analyzed the impact of sex and gender on treatment allocation and overall survival in patients with stage I-III pancreatic cancer.
Methods: Patients with stage I-III pancreatic cancer diagnosed between 2015 and 2020 were selected from the nationwide Netherlands Cancer Registry.
Background: Cone beam CT based Navigation Bronchoscopy (CBCT-NB) has predominantly been investigated as a diagnostic tool in (suspected) primary lung cancers. Small metastatic lesions are clinically considered more challenging to diagnose, but no study has explored the yield of navigation bronchoscopy in patients with pulmonary metastatic lesions (ML) compared to primary lung cancers (PL), correcting for known lesion characteristics affecting diagnostic yield.
Materials And Methods: This is a single-center, retrospective, propensity score-matched case-control study.
The FLOT4-AIO trial (2019) showed improved survival with perioperative fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, and docetaxel (FLOT) compared to anthracyclin triplets in gastric cancer treatment. It is unclear whether these results extend to real-world scenarios in the Netherlands. This study aimed to compare outcomes of perioperative FLOT to anthracyclin triplets in a real-world Dutch gastric cancer population.

With touch imprint cytology (TIC), histologic samples can be assessed using ROSE. Although advised by guidelines, there have been almost no studies on the performance of TIC during navigation bronchoscopy.

This nationwide cohort study aimed to i) assess the frequency of cytological analysis at staging laparoscopy; ii) determine the prevalence of CYT+GC; and iii) compare overall survival (OS) in CYT+ patients versus those with (PM+) and those without (PM-) macroscopic peritoneal disease.
Methods: All patients diagnosed with cT1-4, cN0-2 and M0 or synchronous PM GC between 2016-2021 were identified in the Netherlands Cancer Registry database and linked to the nationwide pathology database.
Rationale And Objectives: Assess the feasibility of a prototype image reconstruction algorithm in correcting motion artifacts in cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of interventional instruments in the lung.
Materials And Methods: First, phantom experiments were performed to assess the algorithm, using the Xsight lung phantom with custom inserts containing straight or curved catheters. During scanning, the inserts moved in a continuous sinusoidal or breath-hold mimicking pattern, with varying amplitudes and frequencies.
To minimize dependency on the availability of data labels, some WiFi-CSI based-gesture recognition solutions utilize an unsupervised representation learning phase prior to fine-tuning downstream task classifiers. In this case, however, the overall performance of the solution is negatively affected by domain factors present in the WiFi-CSI data used by the pre-training models. To reduce this negative effect, we propose an integration of the adversarial domain classifier in the pre-training phase.
