Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa is an inflammatory, debilitating disease for which wide local excision of the affected area with secondary wound healing is considered the treatment of first choice for the inactive scarring form or after adequate anti-inflammatory medical treatment.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to assess the duration of complete secondary wound healing after surgical intervention for hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa.

Materials & Methods: Twenty-three surgical procedures in 17 consecutive patients (eight female, nine male) were evaluated for duration of secondary wound healing at axillary or anogenital/inguinal sites.

Article Synopsis
  • Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) greatly impacts patients' quality of life and often leads to multiple medical visits, prompting a study on the economic burden of HS care.
  • The study analyzed patients treated in 2017 at the University Hospital Würzburg, revealing that inpatient costs were the highest, with specific findings on medication usage like doxycycline and adalimumab.
  • It was concluded that while HS treatment is expensive, the focus should be on utilizing available resources efficiently rather than just cutting costs, highlighting the need for effective and cost-efficient treatment options.

Article Synopsis
  • - Cx43, a type of connexin involved in cell communication, is important in skin tumor development, but its role in certain skin vascular tumors is not well understood.
  • - Researchers analyzed Cx43 expression in cutaneous angiosarcoma, Kaposi sarcoma, and cherry hemangioma samples, finding strong expression in angiosarcoma and medium in Kaposi sarcoma, while cherry hemangioma showed weak expression.
  • - The findings suggest that high-to-intermediate Cx43 expression may contribute to the development of malignant vascular tumors, indicating its potential use as a diagnostic marker.

Aim Of The Study: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and psoriasis vulgaris (PSO) are chronic inflammatory dermatoses in which proinflammatory cytokines, such as IL-17, play a central role. The prevalence of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) is commonly higher in PSO than in healthy individuals. This study was thus set up to investigate the prevalence of KCS among patients with HS.
