Introduction: Polyhydramnios is a common complication of fetal malformations and has been described to have high risk of pregnancy complications such as prematurity and placental abruption. In a subgroup of women severe polyhydramnios may lead to maternal dyspnea or untreatable pain, and amnioreduction is the procedure indicated to relieve those symptoms. There is a lack of information concerning the increase in the risk for the pregnancy when the procedure is indicated.

Purpose: Patients with myelomeningocele have a high mortality and neurological disabilities that are correlated with the anatomical characteristics of the defect and with the development of acquired complications. The challenge in the postnatal management of myelomeningocele (MMC) is the early recognition of cases at risk for complications in order to establish individualized treatment strategies. This study aims to identify short-term prognostic markers for newborns with MMC.

Background: Preterm infants in neonatal intensive care units frequently receive red blood cells (RBC) transfusions due to the anemia of prematurity. A number of variables related to gestational age, severity of illness and transfusion practices adopted in the neonatal unit where the neonate was born may contribute to the prescription of RBC transfusions. This study aimed to analyse the frequency and factors associated with RBC transfusions in very-low-birth-weight preterm infants.

Background: The palmar grasp behavior is one of the items of an infant's routine neurological tests. Its exacerbated presence after the fifth month of age or absence in the first day after birth is an important sign of neuro-sensorimotor disorders. This study aimed to describe the palmar grasp behavior of full-term newborns in the first 72 h of life.
