Aim The study aimed to detect subtle left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction, reflected by abnormal global longitudinal strain (GLS), in patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and to evaluate any improvement in GLS at 24 hours and six months post-PCI. Methods A total of 94 patients with stable CAD scheduled for elective PCI at our hospital were evaluated using conventional 2D echocardiography and GLS prior to the procedure. Follow-up assessments were conducted at 24 hours and six months post-PCI.

Introduction: There is growing interest in the use of psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) for major depressive disorder (MDD), including treatment-resistant depression. We used randomized controlled trial (RCT) data to compare summary estimates of change in depression ratings with PAT versus comparator treatments in MDD. We also compared response and remission rates, and adverse effects.

Purpose Of Review: Urbanization, a complex global phenomenon, has a significant bearing on schizophrenia/psychosis burden through various socioeconomic and environmental factors. This review focuses on recent evidence (2019-2023) linking urbanization, schizophrenia, and the role of green space.

Recent Findings: This review analyzed 43 articles that examined the correlation between urban birth or upbringing, urban living (urbanicity), and various schizophrenia/psychosis-related outcomes such as incidence, psychotic experiences, etc.

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) has emerged as a promising conductive polymer for constructing efficient hole-transport layers (HTLs) in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, conventional fabrication methods, such as spin coating, spray coating, and slot-die coating, have resulted in PEDOT:PSS nanofilms with limited performance, characterized by a low density and non-uniform nanostructures. We introduce a novel 3D-printing approach called electrically assisted direct ink deposition with ultrasonic vibrations (EF-DID-UV) to overcome these challenges.

The importance of conductive polymers has significantly increased over the decade due to their various applications, such as in electronic devices, sensors, and photovoltaics. Poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) is one of the most successfully and widely used polymers in practical applications. Spin coating is extensively used to fabricate these conductive films; however, it has disadvantages.

Cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1R) has strong effects on neurogenesis and axon pathfinding in the prenatal brain. Endocannabinoids that activate CB1R are abundant in the early postnatal brain and in mother's milk, but few studies have investigated their function in newborns. We examined postnatal CB1R expression in the major striatonigral circuit from striosomes of the striatum to the dopamine-containing neurons of the substantia nigra.

Article Synopsis
  • The Arab population, consisting of over 420 million people, exhibits significant genetic diversity and a notable prevalence of genetic diseases, especially autosomal recessive disorders.
  • There is currently a lack of comprehensive databases documenting clinically relevant genetic variants from this population, which hinders accurate diagnosis and disease prevention.
  • To address this issue, the DALIA database has been created to compile genetic variants associated with diseases in the Arab population, serving as a valuable resource for clinical interpretation and genetic research.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinopathy in reproductive age women and is associated with both reproductive and metabolic abnormalities. Recent studies have demonstrated an early onset of abnormal cardiovascular risk profile in women with PCOS. Abnormal lipid profile patterns are common in women with PCOS, and these abnormalities are not uniform in all populations.

Kallman Syndrome.

J Assoc Physicians India

October 2016

Kallman syndrome (KS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized clinically by failure to attain puberty or failure to fully complete it along with an absent or impaired sense of smell with absence of bilateral olfactory bulbi and sulci alongwith absent olfactory tracts. Only very few cases of Kallman syndrome have been reported in females in Indian population.

It is well established that male sexual behavior (MSB) is regulated by gonadal steroids; however, individual differences in MSB, independent of gonadal steroids, are prevalent across a wide range of species, and further investigation is necessary to advance our understanding of steroid-independent MSB. Studies utilizing B6D2F1 hybrid male mice in which a significant proportion retain MSB after long-term orchidectomy, identified as steroid-independent-maters (SI-maters), have begun to unravel the genetic underpinnings of steroid-independent MSB. A recent study demonstrated that steroid-independent MSB is a heritable behavioral phenotype that is mainly passed down from B6D2F1 hybrid SI-maters when crossed with C57BL6J female mice.

Groupers are important commercial fish in many parts of the world. Accurate identification is critical for effective conservation assessment and fisheries management. Genetic barcodes provide a simple and reproducible method for the identification of species even in the absence of taxonomic expertise.

The reactions of (•)OH and O(•-), with thymol, a monoterpene phenol and an antioxidant, were studied by pulse radiolysis technique and DFT calculations at B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p) level of theory. Thymol was found to efficiently scavenge OH radicals (k = 8.1 × 10(9) dm(3) mol(-1) s(-1)) to produce reducing adduct radicals, with an absorption maximum at 330 nm and oxidizing phenoxyl radicals, with absorption maxima at 390 and 410 nm.

Abstract Antioxidant activity of gentisic acid has been studied using fast chemical kinetics and two in vitro models, namely the isolated rat liver mitochondria (RLM) and the human erythrocytes. The presence of gentisic acid (GA) during irradiation significantly reduced the levels of gamma radiation induced damages to lipids and proteins in RLM. Further, GA imparted protection to the human erythrocytes against exposure to gamma radiation.

The title compound, 2-{2-[1,3-di-tert-butyl-4-(tert-butyl-amino)-2-(tert-butyl-imino)-1,3,2λ(5),4-diaza-diphosphetidin-2-yl]-1-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)prop-2-en-1-yl}-5,5-dimethyl-1,3,2λ(5)-dioxaphosphinan-2-one, C(31)H(57)N(4)O(4)P(3), was synthesized from the Phospha-Michael addition reaction of cyclo-diphos-pha-zane [(t-BuNH)P(μ-Nt-Bu)](2) and allenyl-phospho-nate [(OCH(2)C(CH(3))(2)CH(2)O)P(O)C(p-CH(3)O-C(6)H(4))=C=CH(2)]. In the crystal, N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules. The structure exhibits pseudosymmetry but attempts to solve it in a higher (monoclinic) space group were unsuccessful.
