The Effect of Double Carbapenem Regimen in the Management of Carbapenem-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae Infections: A Report of Five Cases.

The treatment of infections caused by carbapenem-resistant organisms is challenging. Carbapenems in combination with vaborbactam and relebactam are recommended to treat infections caused by extensively drug-resistant organisms including carbapenemase-producing isolates, while ceftazidime-avibactam plus aztreonam, or cefiderocol is recommended for infections caused by New Delhi metallo beta-lactamase (NDM)-producing . As, in India, except for ceftazidime-avibactam and aztreonam, the other drugs are not approved for marketing, in this case report, the role of a double carbapenem regimen (ertapenem plus meropenem) in the treatment of carbapenem-resistant infections has been presented.

Is central pancreatectomy an effective alternative to distal pancreatectomy for low-grade pancreatic neck and body tumors: A 20-year single-center propensity score-matched case-control study.

Backgrounds/aims: Central pancreatectomy (CP) is associated with a higher rate of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF), and it is less preferred over distal pancreatectomy (DP). We compared the short- and long-term outcomes between CP and DP for low-grade pancreatic neck and body tumors.

Methods: This was a propensity score-matched case-control study of patients who underwent either CP or DP for low-grade pancreatic neck and body tumors from 2003 to 2020 in a tertiary care unit in southern India.

Mesenchymal hamartoma (MH) is not an uncommon tumor of the liver in the age group of 2-10 years. It is the second most common benign liver tumor in children. Positive Peritoneal Lavage Cytology -Implications for Staging and Management of Gastric Cancer.

The survival rates of gastric cancer patients with cytology-positive peritoneal lavage fluid without macroscopic dissemination (CY+/P-) is the same as that of patients with overt peritoneal metastasis.The 5-year survival rate of such patients is only 2%. The current study aims to highlight its significance in the staging of gastrointestinal malignancies and its implications for patient care.
