A search is presented for direct top squark pair production using events with at least two leptons including a same-flavour opposite-sign pair with invariant mass consistent with the [Formula: see text] boson mass, jets tagged as originating from [Formula: see text]-quarks and missing transverse momentum. The analysis is performed with proton-proton collision data at [Formula: see text] collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2012 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb[Formula: see text].

ATLAS measurements of the azimuthal anisotropy in lead-lead collisions at [Formula: see text] TeV are shown using a dataset of approximately 7 [Formula: see text]b[Formula: see text] collected at the LHC in 2010. The measurements are performed for charged particles with transverse momenta [Formula: see text] GeV and in the pseudorapidity range [Formula: see text]. The anisotropy is characterized by the Fourier coefficients, [Formula: see text], of the charged-particle azimuthal angle distribution for [Formula: see text]-4.

This paper presents the performance of the ATLAS muon reconstruction during the LHC run with [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text]-8 TeV in 2011-2012, focusing mainly on data collected in 2012. Measurements of the reconstruction efficiency and of the momentum scale and resolution, based on large reference samples of [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] decays, are presented and compared to Monte Carlo simulations. Corrections to the simulation, to be used in physics analysis, are provided.

Additional jet activity in dijet events is measured using [Formula: see text] collisions at ATLAS at a centre-of-mass energy of [Formula: see text], for jets reconstructed using the [Formula: see text] algorithm with radius parameter [Formula: see text]. This is done using variables such as the fraction of dijet events without an additional jet in the rapidity interval bounded by the dijet subsystem and correlations between the azimuthal angles of the dijet s. They are presented, both with and without a veto on additional jet activity in the rapidity interval, as a function of the scalar average of the transverse momenta of the dijet s and of the rapidity interval size.

The inclusive top quark pair ([Formula: see text]) production cross-section [Formula: see text] has been measured in proton-proton collisions at [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, using [Formula: see text] events with an opposite-charge [Formula: see text] pair in the final state. The measurement was performed with the 2011 7 TeV dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 [Formula: see text] and the 2012 8 TeV dataset of 20.

Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy is a maternally inherited blinding disease caused as a result of homoplasmic point mutations in complex I subunit genes of mitochondrial DNA. It is characterized by incomplete penetrance, as only some mutation carriers become affected. Thus, the mitochondrial DNA mutation is necessary but not sufficient to cause optic neuropathy.

Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry is widely used for comparative replicate sample analysis in proteomics, lipidomics and metabolomics. Before statistical comparison, registration must be established to match corresponding analytes from run to run. Alignment, the most popular correspondence approach, consists of constructing a function that warps the content of runs to most closely match a given reference sample.

Measurements of the variation of inclusive jet suppression as a function of relative azimuthal angle, Δφ, with respect to the elliptic event plane provide insight into the path-length dependence of jet quenching. ATLAS has measured the Δφ dependence of jet yields in 0.14 nb(-1) of √(s(NN))=2.

In the present study, we investigated the mercury distribution, mercury bioaccumulation, and oxidative parameters in the Neotropical fish Hoplias malabaricus after trophic exposure. Forty-three individuals were distributed into three groups (two exposed and one control) and trophically exposed to fourteen doses of methylmercury each 5 days, totalizing the doses of 1.05 μg g⁻¹ (M1.

As the field of bioinformatics research continues to grow, more and more novel techniques are proposed to meet new challenges and improvements upon solutions to long-standing problems. These include data processing techniques and wet lab protocol techniques. Although the literature is consistently thorough in experimental detail and variable-controlling rigor for wet lab protocol techniques, bioinformatics techniques tend to be less described and less controlled.

Background: The number and diversity of wrappers for chemoinformatic toolkits suggests the diverse needs of the chemoinformatic community. While existing chemoinformatics libraries provide a broad range of utilities, many chemoinformaticians find compiled language libraries intimidating, time-consuming, arcane, and verbose. Although high-level language wrappers have been implemented, more can be done to leverage the intuitiveness of object-orientation, the paradigms of high-level languages, and the extensibility of languages such as Ruby.

Motivation: Quantification of lipids is a primary goal in lipidomics. In direct infusion/injection (or shotgun) lipidomics, accurate downstream identification and quantitation requires accurate summarization of repetitive peak measurements. Imprecise peak summarization multiplies downstream error by propagating into species identification and intensity estimation.

Article Synopsis
  • Musculoskeletal symptoms, including joint and muscle issues, osteoporosis, and fibromyalgia, are common in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients, affecting 6-46% of them.
  • IBD-related arthritis is classified under seronegative spondyloarthropathies, which can significantly impair a patient's quality of life.
  • MRI is the standard for diagnosis, but ultrasound is a useful, non-invasive tool for detecting early signs of musculoskeletal involvement in patients with IBD, while anti-TNF medications like adalimumab and infliximab can help manage symptoms.

Elevated pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) is a significant healthcare risk. Continuous monitoring for patients with elevated PAP is crucial for effective treatment, yet the most accurate method is invasive and expensive, and cannot be performed repeatedly. Noninvasive methods exist but are somewhat inaccurate, expensive, and cannot be used for continuous monitoring.

Two-particle correlations in relative azimuthal angle (Δø) and pseudorapidity (Δη) are measured in sqrt[s(NN)] = 5.02 TeV p+Pb collisions using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The measurements are performed using approximately 1 μb(-1) of data as a function of transverse momentum (p(T)) and the transverse energy (ΣE(T)(Pb)) summed over 3.

The present study evaluated the efficacy of an adapted version of the Mollon-Reffin test for the behavioral investigation of color vision in capuchin monkeys. Ten tufted capuchin monkeys (Sapajus spp., formerly referred to as Cebus apella) had their DNA analyzed and were characterized as the following: one trichromat female, seven deuteranope dichromats (six males and one female), and two protanope males, one of which was identified as an "ML protanope.

Purpose: Mycophenolic acid (MPA) is an immunosuppressive agent that controls noninfectious uveitis. Intravitreal MPA delivery may be a potential adjuvant therapy in patients who have to discontinue steroid or immunosuppressive systemic therapy because of side effects. The aims of this study are to evaluate the in vitro effects of MPA over human retinal pigment epithelium (ARPE-19) and human Muller cells (MIO M-1).
