This study investigated the impact of different granular activated carbon (GAC) loadings and inoculum enrichment on acidogenic fermentation of food waste in a leachate bed reactor (LBR) operated at a high volumetric organic loading of 49 g VS/L. LBR with a high GAC loading of 0.51 g GAC/g VS achieved hydrolysis yield of 620 g SCOD/kg VS, significantly (P ≤ 0.

Degeneration of the intervertebral disc is associated with a decrease in extra-cellular matrix (ECM) content due to an imbalance in anabolic and catabolic signaling. Our previous study profiled the core matrisome of fetal NP's and identified various proteins with anabolic potential for regenerative therapies. This study aims to complement those results by exploring ECM regulators, associated proteins and secreted factors of the fetal nucleus pulposus (NP).

Two novel hypervalent selenium(IV) compounds stabilized by intramolecular interactions, namely 6-phenyl-6,7-dihydro-5H-2,3-dioxa-2aλ-selenacyclopenta[hi]indene, CHOSe, 14, and 5-phenyl-5,6-dihydro-4H-benzo[c][1,2]oxaselenole-7-carbaldehyde, CHOSe, 15, have been synthesized by the reaction of 2-chloro-1-formyl-3-(hydroxymethylene)cyclohexene with in-situ-generated disodium diselenide (NaSe). The title compounds were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, ESI-MS, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. For 14, there is whole-molecule disorder, with occupancies of 0.

Objective: To investigate the cytotoxicity and antiviral activity of methanolic extract of flowers using different cell lines and viruses.

Methods: The methanolic flower extracts were prepared and evaluated for their antiviral and cytotoxic activities using viruses like herpes simplex-1 and 2, vaccinia, vesicular stomatitis, cox sackie, respiratory syncytical, feline corona, feline herpes, para influenza, reo-1, sindbis and punta toro viruses in different cell lines, like Hel, HeLa, Crandell Reus feline kidney and Vero cell cultures.

Results: Among the viruses used the extract possessed strongest antiviral activity against herpes simplex 1 and 2, repiratory syncytical, para influenza, reo, sindbis, cox sackie and punta toro viruses that was (EC=20 μg/mL and 45 μg/mL) and moderate activity for remaining viruses (EC= 100 μg/mL).
