Additionally, reactive oxygen species have been used in conjunction with mass spectrometry to map the accessible surface of proteins, often after verification that the oxidations do not alter the conformation.

A 36-year-old man presented with cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhoea after head injury in a road traffic accident three weeks prior to presentation. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging demonstrated a hypointense cavity in the left frontal lobe communicating with the frontal horn of the left lateral ventricle, consistent with an intracerebral pneumatocele. The fistulous track communicating with the frontal sinus was demonstrated on the sagittal and coronal images.

Zero-order or concentration independent release kinetics are highly desirable from drug delivery devices. In this paper we demonstrate experimentally, for the first time, zero-order release of a small molecular weight therapeutic, ketotifen fumarate (MW=425), from molecularly imprinted hydrogels used as therapeutic contact lenses. We performed dynamic, in vitro drug release studies from imprinted hydrogel contact lenses within a novel microfluidic device that simulates the volumetric flow rates, tear volume and tear composition of the eye.

CT of blunt pancreatic trauma: a pictorial essay.

Blunt trauma to pancreas is uncommon and clinical features are often non-specific and unreliable leading to possible delays in diagnosis and therefore increased morbidity. CT has been established as the imaging modality of choice for the diagnosis of abdominal solid-organ injury in the blunt trauma patient. The introduction of multidetector-row CT allows for high resolution scans and multiplanar reformations that improve diagnosis.

After about three decades, Chikungunya infection has re-emerged in India and the first cases were reported in December, 2005. The outbreak has currently affected about 8 states in the country. Generalized fabrication of two-dimensional non-close-packed colloidal crystals.

In this paper we report a generalized templating approach for fabricating wafer-scale, two-dimensional, non-close-packed (ncp) colloidal crystals. Polymer nanocomposites consisting of monolayer ncp colloidal crystals prepared by a spin-coating process are used as sacrificial templates. After removal of the colloidal silica templates, the voids in the polymer matrix are infiltrated with other materials.

Tiruppur town and its surroundings of Tamil Nadu state had reported the rise in dengue cases and some deaths during July, 2005. A team from NICD branch, Coonoor investigated the outbreak of dengue during August, 2005. Due to acute scarcity of water, people in Tiruppur town and surrounding rural areas store water in cement tanks and other containers which facilitated the prolific breeding of the dengue vector mosquitoes.

We have applied the principles of biomimesis by incorporating a natural receptor-based rational design strategy in the synthesis of novel recognitive soft contact lenses. We have demonstrated the potential of biomimetic carriers to load significant amounts of ocular medication such as H(1)-antihistamines, as well as to release a therapeutic dosage of drug in vitro in a controlled fashion for 5 days, with an even further extension in the presence of protein. Gels of multiple complexation points with varying functionalities outperformed gels formed with less diverse functional monomers and showed superior loading with a six-fold difference over control gels and a three-fold difference over less biomimetic gels.

Molecular mechanisms that underlie severe paralysis are not well delineated but are essential to know to improve treatment.
