Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease that is now potentially lethal and has a significant detrimental influence on people's daily lives by affecting bone joints. Inflammation plays a vital role in this type of autoimmune disorder. In rheumatoid arthritis, long-term production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1 (IL-1) stimulates the immune system against cells in bone joints and helps to develop the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis.

In the title hydrated salt, CHClN ·CHNO ·HO, the pyridine N atom of the cation is protonated and an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond is observed in the anion, which generates an (6) ring. The crystal packing features N-H⋯N, O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O, C-H⋯Cl and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, which generate a three-dimensional network.

Bioactive molecules from natural sources having contraceptive properties were excellent alternatives for modern hormonal contraceptives. Researchers around the world were working on identifying contraceptive leads targeting the male reproductive system rather than the usual female contraceptives. The lack of proper understanding on male contraceptive protein drug targets leads to insufficient evidence on activities of identified contraceptive compounds.

In the title 2:1 co-crystal, 2CHClN·CHO the complete succinic acid mol-ecule is generated by a crystallographic centre of symmetry. In the crystal, pairwise O-H⋯N and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the pyrimidine and succinic acid mol-ecules, generating (8) loops. The pyrimidine mol-ecules are linked by pairwise N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, again generating (8) loops.

Unlabelled: Herpesviruses are nuclear-replicating viruses that have successfully evolved to evade the immune system of humans, establishing lifelong infections. ICP27 from herpes simplex virus is a multifunctional regulatory protein that is functionally conserved in all known human herpesviruses. It has the potential to interact with an array of cellular proteins, as well as intronless viral RNAs.

Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus encodes four viral homologues to cellular interferon regulatory factors (IRFs), where the most studied is vIRF-1. Even though vIRF-1 shows sequence homology to the N-terminal DNA-binding domain (DBD) of human IRFs, a specific role for this domain in vIRF-1's function has remained uncertain. To provide insights into the function of the vIRF-1 DBD, we have determined the crystal structure of it in complex with DNA and in its apo-form.

Background: UDP-glucose dehydrogenase (UGDH) is the sole enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of UDP-glucose to UDP-glucuronic acid. The product is used in xenobiotic glucuronidation in hepatocytes and in the production of proteoglycans that are involved in promoting normal cellular growth and migration. Overproduction of proteoglycans has been implicated in the progression of certain epithelial cancers, while inhibition of UGDH diminished tumor angiogenesis in vivo.

In the salicylate anion of the title salt, C(5)H(7)N(2) (+)·C(7)H(5)O(3) (-), an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond generating an S(6) ring motif is observed. In the crystal structure, the cations and anions are linked into a two-dimensional network parallel to the ab plane by N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The network contains R(2) (2)(7) and R(1) (2)(4) ring motifs.

Sox17 is a member of the SRY-related high-mobility group (HMG) of transcription factors that have been shown to direct endodermal differentiation in early mammalian development. The LAMA1 gene encoding the alpha-chain of laminin-1 has been reported to be directly bound and regulated by Sox17. This paper describes the details of initial crystallization attempts with the HMG domain of mouse Sox17 (mSox17-HMG) with a 16-mer DNA element derived from the LAMA1 enhancer and optimization strategies to obtain a better diffracting crystal.
