Background And Aims: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and underrepresented minorities (URMs) historically have below average vaccination rates. URMs have increased morbidity and mortality from COVID-19. We surveyed IBD patients to assess COVID vaccination attitudes, particularly among URMs.

Autoimmune Gastrointestinal Dysmotility in a Patient With HIV Treated With Methylprednisolone and Pyridostigmine.

Primary autoimmune gastrointestinal dysmotility is a limited form of autoimmune dysautonomia, driven by antiganglionic autoantibodies (AGAs) against enteric neurons. AGAs are observed in other autoimmune diseases, such as Guillain-Barré syndrome, before the development onset of gastrointestinal symptoms. Here, we report a case of a 57-year-old woman with human immunodeficiency virus, who previously developed Guillain-Barré syndrome, presenting with 6 months of intestinal dysmotility.

Safety of Recombinant Zoster Vaccine in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Background: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at increased risk of developing herpes zoster. In October 2017, the FDA approved a two-dose adjuvanted, recombinant herpes zoster vaccine (RZV). There is a theoretical concern that vaccine adjuvants may cause flares in patients with immune-mediated diseases.

Optimization of the preparation of GaN-based specimens with low-energy ion milling for (S)TEM.

We report on optimization of electron transparent GaN based specimens for transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning TEM (STEM) studies by combining focused ion beam thinning and low-energy (≤500 eV) Ar-ion milling. Energy dependent ion milling effects on GaN based structures are investigated and the quality of ion milled samples is compared with that of specimens prepared by wet chemical etching. Defects formed during ion milling lead to amorphization of the specimen.
