Orbital spindle cell hemangioma with acute presentation.

We report an unusual presentation of an orbital spindle cell hemangioma in a 40-year-old male, who noted sudden redness and swelling of the left eye on waking up. On examination, the patient was found to have edema of upper eyelid edema, periorbital ecchymosis, and subconjunctival hemorrhage in the left eye at presentation. On treatment with topical medications, patient had transient symptomatic relief; however, he later developed blurring of vision.

Importance of Diameter of Long Process of Incus in Stapedotomy-New Findings From In Vivo Study.

 Stapes surgery for otosclerosis is a precise surgical procedure. To achieve excellent hearing results, a firm and stable attachment of the prosthesis to the long process of incus (LPI) is necessary. The present study provides details on the attachment site in two dimensions to choose an appropriate prosthesis and to ensure firm attachment for better surgical outcomes.

Obliquity of the Stapes in Otosclerosis: A New Radiological Sign.

Introduction Observing the obliquity of stapes by closely scrutinizing the HRCT temporal bone in otosclerosis revealed a reliable and consistent finding. This finding can add to the existing radiological criteria in diagnosis of otosclerosis. Objective The objective of this study is to establish the obliquity of stapes in otosclerosis by radiological measurements using HRCT temporal bone by comparing: (a) the distance between the horizontal (tympanic) segment of facial nerve and stapes head in otosclerotic ears (study group) with non-otosclerotic ears (control group); and (b) the angle subtended by stapes with promontory in the study and control groups.

Cordoplasty: a new technique for managing bilateral vocal cord paralysis and its comparison with posterior cordotomy and external procedure in a large study group.

To compare the functional results between posterior cordotomy, cordoplasty and external procedure in managing bilateral vocal cord paralysis in one of the largest published study group. Retrospective and comparative study. 54 patients with bilateral vocal cord paralysis who underwent posterior cordotomy (Group-I), cordoplasty (Group-II) and external procedure (Group-III) from 2001 to 2013 were compared for functional outcomes.

Nasal septal clips: an alternative to nasal packing after septal surgery?

Surgeons have debated since decades on the efficacy or inefficacy of nasal packing yet it is considered routine after septal surgery. Various types of septal splints have been tried as an alternative to nasal packs but most of them need to be sutured around the septum which requires a meticulous approach and expertise. Our aim is to assess and compare the immediate post-operative morbidity and the eventual outcome of septal surgery while using glove finger packs with that of septal clips with splints.
