erbB receptors contribute to tumor formation and progression. Variable expression of erbB1, erbB2, and erbB3 has been reported in nevi and melanomas; erbB4 has hardly been investigated. We examined the expression of all 4 erbB receptors in common and dysplastic nevi and melanomas.

Localized amyloid tumor of the tongue. A case report and review of the literature.

Amyloid is usually deposited in the tongue, as a part of generalized amyloidosis. Isolated localized amyloidosis of the tongue is relatively rare. We report such a case which presented with glossodynia and glossopyrosis and was thought clinically to represent median rhomboid glossitis.

Periappendiceal actinomycosis mimicking malignancy report of a case.

A case of a periappendiceal actinomycosis, seen in an 83-year-old woman, clinically mimicking a right ovarian neoplasm penetrating the right colon, is presented. The patient's complaints led to the discovery of a right abdominal mass. Explorative laparotomy and right hemicolectomy were done.

Capsular collagen staining of follicular thyroid neoplasms by picrosirius red: role in differential diagnosis.

A key criterion in the diagnosis of thyroid follicular carcinoma is capsular invasion, but invasion cannot always be demonstrated histologically. Since invasion is likely to evoke reactions in the capsular collagen, we examined the effects of invasion on capsular collagen with the picrosirius orange-red (PSR) staining technique for collagen. Under polarized light, the color of PSR-stained collagen varies as a function of the structural and biochemical properties of the collagen fibers.

The detection of metastatic lymph nodes in cancer patients is essential for determining the cancer stage, and thus, the therapeutic modalities. However, very small lymph nodes can easily be missed during routine examination. We described a "Lymph Node Revealing Solution" (LNRS) that helps to detect tiny lymph nodes in neck dissection specimens.

Patterns of proliferative changes in crypts bordering colonic tumors: zonal histology and cell cycle marker expression.

Proliferative crypt changes have been noted in mucosa bordering colonic carcinomas, but their biological significance is disputed. We anticipated that zonal patterning of histological changes and cell cycle marker expression would provide clues to the pathogenesis of these border changes. 81 specimens were examined including carcinomas, adenomatours polyps, adenomas with early carcinoma, flat adenomas and aberrant crypt foci.

Leiomyoma of the urinary bladder.

Leiomyoma of the urinary bladder is a rarity but should be considered in the differential diagnosis of intramural neoplasm. We report a case illustrating clinical and pathological features in particular the immunohistochemistry. Etiology and differential diagnosis are discussed.

Lymph node revealing solution: a new method for detection of minute axillary lymph nodes in breast cancer specimens.

The staging and prognosis of patients with breast cancer is related to the presence or absence of axillary lymph node involvement. However, in some cases no lymph nodes or too small a number of lymph nodes are revealed by the traditional method of palpating and sectioning the axillary fat. In the present study we demonstrate the usefulness of the lymph node revealing solution (LNRS) in breast cancer.
