The impact of fever as a testing indication on the detection rate of deep vein thrombosis in neurocritically ill patients.

Aim: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is considered a possible source of non-infectious, non-central fever in the intensive care unit (ICU). In the neurocritically ill, it is unknown whether lower extremity venous Doppler ultrasonography (LEVDUS) for DVT in the setting of fever leads to a higher detection rate than the baseline detection rate of DVT in this population. The aim of this study was to compare the DVT detection rate of LEVDUS performed for the indication of fever to LEVDUS performed for other indications in a neurosciences ICU.

Materials And Methods: Descriptive and cross-sectional bibliometric study, based on the systematic search of information in Scopus between 2017 and July 10, 2022. The search strategy was elaborated with Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and Boolean operators.

Discrepancy between Food Classification Systems: Evaluation of Nutri-Score, NOVA Classification and Chilean Front-of-Package Food Warning Labels.

Background: Currently, there are different food classification systems in order to inform the population of the best alternatives for consumption, considering all the diseases associated with the consumption of products of low nutritional quality. Reports indicate that these forms of labelling warnings correspond to a laudable strategy for populations that do not have the knowledge to discriminate between the wide range of products offered by the food industry. However, recent publications indicate that there may be inconsistencies between the different classification guidelines, and the guidelines that nations should adopt in their food guides are still a matter of debate.

Simulating the experience of searching for LGBTQ-specific opioid use disorder treatment in the United States.

Introduction: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) populations experience opioid-related disparities compared to heterosexual and cisgender populations. LGBTQ-specific services are needed within opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment settings to minimize treatment barriers; research on the availability and accessibility of such services is limited. The purpose of the current study was to mimic the experience of an LGBTQ-identified individual searching for LGBTQ-specific OUD treatment services, using the SAMHSA National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Facilities - 2018 (Treatment Directory).

To elucidate the potential benefits of maternal GBS vaccines, data is needed on the epidemiology of maternal GBS rectovaginal colonization, distribution of serotypes, and resistance to intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis (IAP). We collected rectal and vaginal samples from 305 pregnant women in León, Nicaragua between 35 and 40 weeks gestation.

Objectives: To evaluate the horizontal condylar angle (HCA) in mandibular lateral displacement (MLD).

Materials And Methods: HCA in MLD malocclusions were examined using cone-beam computed tomography data in subjects with MLD and control subjects.

Results: HCA in joints of control patients and contralateral side joints of MLD patients were not significantly different.

Introduction: Acute lower respiratory tract infections are the top cause of nonneonatal mortality in children under 5 years of age. Since many resource-limited settings lack basic pediatric respiratory support modalities, introducing respiratory technology in these settings may improve survival. Unfortunately, data suggest that many interventions in these settings are not sustainable and that after several months, local staff are no longer comfortable using newly implemented technology.

Development of a multiple regression model to calibrate a low-cost sensor considering reference measurements and meteorological parameters.

Low-cost air quality sensors are widely used to improve temporal and spatial resolution of air quality data. In Lima, Peru, only a limited number of reference air quality monitors have been installed, which has led to a lack of data for establishing environmental and health policies. Low-cost technology is promising for developing countries because it is small and inexpensive to operate and maintain.

Tear biomarkers and corneal sensitivity as an indicator of neuropathy in type 2 diabetes.

Liquid biopsy for lung cancers: an update on recent developments.

Liquid biopsy in lung cancer is evolving as an important added tool for screening, early detection, monitoring, and even prognostication of lung cancer. Guidelines and expert recommendations for its use in practice are available and there are specific scenarios in which liquid biopsy is actively being adopted. Several biomarkers, from which important tumor genomic information is obtained, are currently the subject of ongoing investigation.

Patient-led decision making: Measuring autonomy and respect in Canadian maternity care.

Objective: The Changing Childbirth in British Columbia study explored women's preferences and experiences of maternity care, including women's role in decision-making.

Methods: Following content validation by community members, we administered a cross-sectional online survey exploring novel topics, including drivers for interventions, and experiences of autonomy, respect, or mistreatment during maternity care. Using the Mothers Autonomy in Decision-Making (MADM) scale as an outcome measure in a mixed-effects analysis, we examined differential experiences by socio-demographic and prenatal risk profile, type of care provider, interventions received, and nature of communication with care providers.
