Myeloid sarcoma is an extra medullary manifestation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Primary involvement of the biliary tract with myeloid sarcoma presenting as obstructive jaundice without evidence of leukemia is very rare. Here we present a case of 72 year old lady, who initially presented with features of biliary obstruction and was clinically considered as cholangiocarcinoma.

Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is the major complication post hematopoeitic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) causing significant morbidity and mortality. Colonic biopsies were performed in 25 post HSCT patients presenting the diarrhea for diagnosis of acute graft versus host disease (A-GVHD). The present study was undertaken to evaluate and illustrate histomorphological features of A-GVHD in GI biopsies and to grade them.

Case 1 presented with obstructive jaundice and showed IgG4-related disease (RD) involving right and left hepatic duct, common bile duct and gallbladder. Case 2 presented as periampullary mass.

Uterine tumors resembling ovarian sex cord tumors are rare neoplasms with varied histological and immunophenotypic profile, uncertain histiogenesis and biological behavior. A critical evaluation of histological features is essential for diagnosis and management of these cases.

Methods: This prospective study took place over two years (September 2007 to 2009) and included 61 patients with cases of liver SOLs that were clinically or radiologically suspicious for malignancy and who were referred for computed tomography or ultrasonography-guided FNAC.
A 50-year-old male presented with cough and breathlessness. A positron emissoin tomography scan revealed FDG (Fluorodeoxyglucose) avid mediastinal mass. Tru-cut biopsy showed fibrotic stromal tissue with cellular infiltrate consisting of abnormal lymphoid cells and few large cells with smudged nucleus.

An unusual case of mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma is described which posed a diagnostic challenge in view of neuroendocrine component mimicking signet ring cells of adenocarcinoma. Diagnostic criteria for these mixed tumors, their histogenesis and treatment modalities are highlighted.

Case Characteristics: 6-month-old male presented with a brain tumor and was subsequently found to have malignant rhabdoid tumor of kidney.
Interventions: Surgical resection of brain tumor followed by chemotherapy and subsequently resection of renal tumor.

Background And Aims: The role of hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotypes in the severity of liver disease is still debatable and there is an occasional published report from India. The aim of this study is to assess the role of HCV genotypes in severity of liver disease in Indian patients. An attempt has also been made to perform a multivariate analysis to identify the predictors of severity of liver disease in chronic HCV infection.

Variceal bleeding is a consequence of portal hypertension, which, in turn, is the major complication of liver cirrhosis. Primary prophylaxis to prevent the first bleed from varices is one of the most important strategies for reducing the mortality in cirrhotic patients.

Method: Clinical, anthropometric and biochemical data of 71 consecutive patients with a histological diagnosis of NASH were retrieved from the medical database. The histologic criteria proposed at the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases Conference (2003) were followed.
Background And Aim: Inhibition of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha is a logical approach to manage patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Pentoxifylline reduces TNF-alpha and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels in patients with NASH. The aim of the present paper was to study if pentoxifylline can improve histological injury in patients with NASH.

It may even account for some of the cases previously diagnosed as cryptogenic cirrhosis. Association of this entity, with obesity, insulin resistance and type II diabetes is well documented.

The prevalence of HCV genotypes and their correlation with the histopathological severity of liver disease and steatosis in Indian patients were studied. HCV-RNA and genotyping was carried out in 398 patients with chronic hepatitis C.

Background: Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is a rare cause of chronic liver disease in India. We analyzed the clinical, biochemical, serological and histological features of patients with PBC for over a 10-year period.
Methods: PBC was diagnosed by the presence of raised level of serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), anti-mitochondrial antibody (AMA) positivity (1:40 dilution), and/or diagnostic liver histology.

This study compares the histology of liver biopsies in precore mutant (PCM) and wild-type hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Thirty cases of PCM and 60 cases of wild-type HBV infection were included. Patients were diagnosed on the basis of serological profile and HBV DNA assessment.

At least six main groups of sequence variants are recognized. The natural history of disease and response to treatment may be related to the genotype of HCV in a particular patient.

Unlabelled: There is limited information on the histological profile of chronic liver disease due to dual infection with hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus infection. Few studies have indicated higher histological activity with dual infection as compared to HBV and HCV infection present alone. This study aims at reviewing the histological profile of liver biopsies in the three groups.
