Introduction: Children with wheeze and asthma present with airway epithelial vulnerabilities, such as impaired responses to viral infection. It is postulated that the in utero environment may contribute to the development of airway epithelial vulnerabilities. The aims of the study were to establish whether the receptors for rhinovirus (RV), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are expressed in the amniotic membrane and whether the pattern of expression is similar to newborn nasal epithelium.

Within the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) framework, a Nature-based Solution (NbS) using Zostera noltei transplants was tested to restore a historically contaminated intertidal area. In-situ transplantation relied on patches of seagrass and sediment from a Donor meadow and its evolution was monitored for two years. The evaluation of the transplant success encompassed the seagrass coverage area, seagrass biomass, tissue mercury (Hg) accumulation, and photosynthetic efficiency.

Cohort studies investigating respiratory disease pathogenesis aim to pair mechanistic investigations with longitudinal virus detection but are limited by the burden of methods tracking illness over time. In this study, we explored the utility of a purpose-built AERIAL TempTracker smartphone app to assess real-time data collection and adherence monitoring and overall burden to participants, while identifying symptomatic respiratory illnesses in two birth cohort studies. We observed strong adherence with daily app usage over the six-month study period, with positive feedback from participant families.

In this work, the effects of two TiO polymorphs on the decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (NHClO) were studied experimentally and theoretically. The interactions between AP and various surfaces of TiO were modeled using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Specifically, the adsorption of AP on three rutile surfaces (1 1 0), (1 0 0), and (0 0 1), as well as two anatase surfaces (1 0 1), and (0 0 1) were modeled using cluster models, along with the decomposition of adsorbed AP into small molecules.

Background: Iron deficiency (ID) is the most common nutritional deficiency affecting young children. Serum ferritin concentration is the preferred biomarker for measuring iron status because it reflects iron stores; however, blood collection can be distressing for young children and can be logistically difficult. A noninvasive means to measure iron status would be attractive to either diagnose or screen for ID in young children.

Rationale: Evidence suggests consumption of a Mediterranean diet (MD) can positively impact both maternal and offspring health, potentially mediated by a beneficial effect on inflammatory pathways. We aimed to apply metabolic profiling of serum and urine samples to assess differences between women who were stratified into high and low alignment to a MD throughout pregnancy and investigate the relationship of the diet to inflammatory markers.

A 64-year-old man with history of prostate cancer was found to have rising prostate-specific antigen after radical prostatectomy. 18 F-DCFPyL PET/CT demonstrated a prostate-specific membrane antigen-avid brain lesion in the left frontal lobe and no other findings to account for rising prostate-specific antigen. Brain MRI demonstrated a small intraparenchymal hematoma with late subacute features in this location.

The northwestern coast of the Iberian Peninsula is a region characterized by pronounced hydrologic and biogeochemical activity, resulting in important fish and shellfish resources whose exploitation has a strong local socioeconomic impact. This high biological diversity is strongly dependent on coastal upwelling induced by favourable winds, which presents seasonal variability. This motivates the present study, which aims to understand the relation between local circulation, hydrography and Chl-a concentration under summer upwelling events of different intensities and clarify their effects in the region.
