Dynamic spectroscopic and optical characterization and modeling of bovine serum albumin corona during interaction with N-hydroxysulfo-succinimide-covalently functionalized gold nanourchins.

In this study, bovine serum albumin (BSA) is used as a globular protein model to examine the conformational changes that occur during the interaction of BSA with N-hydroxysulfo-succinimide (sodium salt)-functionalized gold nanourchins (GNUs), for which dynamic spectroscopic techniques are employed. The results showed that the absorbance of phosphate-buffered saline-BSA at 278 nm decreased when a GNU was added to the solution due to adsorption, and it decreased further when the GNU was increased. The intensity and width of the peak of local surface plasmon resonance increased, indicating the effect of corona formation.

Near IR-plasmon enhanced guided fluorescence and thermal imaging of tissue subsurface target using ICG-labeled gold nanourchin and protein contrast agent: implication of stability.

A dual-function nanocomposite agent (NCA) was prepared for deep tissue fluorescence and thermal imaging. The results showed that a combination of some agents such as gold nanourchins (GNU) and indocyanine green (ICG) can have spectral overlapping and hence some peak broadening. Despite 83% and 92% loss of NCA fluorescence after tissue layers L1 and L2, respectively, there was sufficient signal detected for imaging the target buried under the tissue.

Dynamic characterization of indocyanine green-assisted dental caries ablation with continuous diode laser using thermal imaging and fluorescence spectroscopy.

We describe the time-resolved thermal changes in indocyanine green (ICG)-assisted diode laser ablation of dental caries as a potential technique for painless treatment based on the selective photoabsorption and controlled photothermal ablation. Static ablation mode produced a higher temperature rise compared with scanning mode due to localized accumulation of heat. A temperature rise between 45-80 and 70-95 °C was obtained after 20 s that corresponded to 29 and 80 W cm, respectively.
