Background Pediatric migraine is a primary headache affecting daily activities and causing significant disability among children. However, clarity on the usage of prophylactic medications in children is yet to be established. This study was conducted with the aim of comparing the efficacy and safety of flunarizine and propranolol in the prophylaxis of pediatric migraine.

Background: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a safe, effective intervention for individuals with cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, a majority of eligible patients do not complete CR. Growing evidence suggests that home-based cardiac rehabilitation (HBCR) programs are comparable in effectiveness and safety with traditional center-based programs.

Background: This study was intended to document the clinical profile and treatment outcome of West syndrome in children attending a tertiary care centre in Northern India.

Methods: Data were collected by a retrospective chart review of children diagnosed with West syndrome between January 2017 to January 2018. Information was recorded pertaining to the age at onset and presentation, etiology, and associated co-morbidities; results of electroencephalography (EEG) and neuroimaging; treatment given; and final outcome.

Background And Method: There is an absence of research on the prevalence of bereavement during early childhood and the relationship between childhood bereavement and socioeconomic status (SES) and this poses a challenge in both understanding and supporting children's bereavement experiences. Using longitudinal data from the Growing Up in Scotland study, which tracks the lives of three nationally representative cohorts of children, this paper aimed to address these gaps in research. It specifically drew on data from Birth Cohort 1 to document the recorded bereavements of 2,815 children who completed all 8 sweeps of data collection, from age 10 months to 10 years.

Objectives: To compare the efficacy and safety of 7 d vs. 10 d empirical antibiotic therapy in cases of acute pyogenic meningitis in children aged 3 mo to 14 y with rapid initial recovery.

Methods: A total of 96 children aged 3 mo to 14 y with acute pyogenic meningitis were randomized to either 7 d or 10 d therapy on Day 5 of the therapy, if they were in clinical remission and had improving cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) abnormalities.

Postinfectious Glomerulonephritis (PIGN) usually follows 1-2 weeks after respiratory tract infection and 4-6 weeks after skin infection. Acute Glomerulonephritis (AGN) is uncommon with simultaneous severe throat infections. We describe a 10-year-old boy who was presented with high grade fever, dysphagia and tender swelling over left side of neck.

Background And Purpose: The psychostimulant cocaine induces complex molecular, cellular and behavioural responses as a consequence of inhibiting presynaptic dopamine, noradrenaline and 5-HT transporters. To elucidate 5-HT transporter (SERT)-specific contributions to cocaine action, we evaluated cocaine effects in the SERT Met172 knock-in mouse, which expresses a SERT coding substitution that eliminates high-affinity cocaine recognition.

Experimental Approach: We measured the effects of SERT Met172 on cocaine antagonism of 5-HT re-uptake using ex vivo synaptosome preparations and in vivo microdialysis.

The need for measuring fluorescence lifetimes of species in subdiffraction-limited volumes in, for example, stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscopy, entails the dual challenge of probing a small number of fluorophores and fitting the concomitant sparse data set to the appropriate excited-state decay function. This need has stimulated a further investigation into the relative merits of two fitting techniques commonly referred to as "residual minimization" (RM) and "maximum likelihood" (ML). Fluorescence decays of the well-characterized standard, rose bengal in methanol at room temperature (530 ± 10 ps), were acquired in a set of five experiments in which the total number of "photon counts" was approximately 20, 200, 1000, 3000, and 6000 and there were about 2-200 counts at the maxima of the respective decays.

Despite high expectations of safer, effective, economical, longer acting contraceptives, to date, there are no licensed contraceptive vaccines available in the market. Nevertheless, a role for vaccines undoubtedly exists as an aid to birth spacing and as a nonsurgical means of generating sterility. The research concerned in the area so far has been successful on the feline population, with room still for exhaustive studies on humans.

Portfolio careers in medicine can be defined as significant involvement in one or more portfolios of activity beyond a practitioner's primary clinical role, either concurrently or in sequence. Portfolio occupations may include medical education, research, administration, legal medicine, the arts, engineering, business and consulting, leadership, politics and entrepreneurship. Despite significant interest among junior doctors, portfolios are poorly integrated with prevocational and speciality training programs in Australia.

We study noise reduction using modified compressive sensing optical coherence tomography. We show that averaged modified compressed sensing (CS) reconstruction achieves better image quality in terms of signal-to-noise ratio, local contrast, and contrast-to-noise ratio, compared to the classical averaging method while reducing the total amount of data required to reconstruct the images. The same is also true when compared with standard CS-based averaging method with the same amount of undersampled data.
