Purpose: Gabapentinoids are currently being used anecdotally for postoperative pain following photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) despite the lack of evidence. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of pregabalin in mitigating pain after PRK compared to the standard of care.

Methods: One hundred thirty-five patients scheduled for PRK at the Joint Warfighter Refractive Surgery Center in San Antonio, Texas were randomized to receive either oral pregabalin 75 mg twice daily for 5 days or placebo, in addition to the standard pain care regimen.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to report the use of novel masking agents during an anterior lamellar keratoplasty performed using a femtosecond laser in a patient with corneal ectasia that was consistent with recurrent keratoconus.

Methods: This is a case report.

Results: A 55-year-old man, with a 23-year status after penetrating keratoplasty for keratoconus, presented with a chief complaint of ocular discomfort in the right eye.

A 33-year-old man who was 2 years post laser in situ keratomileusis was found to have corneal ectasia. He was intolerant of rigid gas-permeable contact lenses and eventually chose to have placement of intrastromal corneal ring segments (ICRS) (Intacs) in the right eye. Two ICRS were implanted without complication, and postoperative examination showed improved visual acuity and decreased corneal elevation on scanning-slit tomography imaging.

Sulfonamide medications can cause an idiosyncratic reaction, resulting in acute transient myopia and acute angle-closure glaucoma. The risk of an adverse reaction to a sulfonamide is approximately 3%, and the exact mechanism of the myopia and angle-closure glaucoma remains controversial. Typical clinical presentation includes bilateral involvement with blurring of vision that generally occurs over minutes to hours, nausea or vomiting, red eye, and headache.
