Article Synopsis
  • Several techniques for maxillary sinus graft augmentation, like the lateral window and crestal approaches, have been studied, and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is noted for speeding up healing.
  • This study aimed to see if combining PRF with synthetic hydroxyapatite NanoBone improves bone regeneration during sinus floor elevation using the lateral window technique.
  • In a split-mouth study with six participants, the test group using NanoBone and PRF showed a greater increase in new vital bone compared to the control group using only NanoBone, suggesting that PRF may enhance bone formation without hindering the process.

The cellular mechanism(s) linking macrophages to norepinephrine (NE)-mediated regulation of thermogenesis have been a topic of debate. Here we identify sympathetic neuron-associated macrophages (SAMs) as a population of cells that mediate clearance of NE via expression of solute carrier family 6 member 2 (SLC6A2), an NE transporter, and monoamine oxidase A (MAOA), a degradation enzyme. Optogenetic activation of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) upregulates NE uptake by SAMs and shifts the SAM profile to a more proinflammatory state.

Unlabelled: Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are conservative protective proteins responsible for protein integrity during transcription in the cell under stress. Hsp47 is one of the most important chaperonins for collagen synthesis and release, and is up-regulated during wound repair. The aim of this study was to verify whether defocused high-energy diode laser (DDL) causes sufficient increase in local temperature to cause Hsp47 up-regulation during repair of oral ulcers.

Heat shock proteins (Hsps) 27 and 47 are involved in the control of apoptosis, cell migration, and collagen synthesis. There is some understanding of the immunolocalization of these proteins during the repair process in skin and gastrointestinal mucosa, but their expressions in normal and injured oral mucosa are unknown. The aim of this study was to analyze the immunolocalization and intensity of these proteins in oral ulcers induced in rats and to compare these expression levels with those reported in skin and gastric mucosa.

Bovine embryos cultured in serum-containing media abnormally accumulate lipids in the cytoplasm. This is well known to contribute to their higher susceptibility to cryopreservation and biopsied embryos are even further susceptible. We aimed to improve in vitro produced (IVP) embryos resistance to micromanipulation and cryopreservation by supplementing serum-containing media with trans-10, cis-12 conjugated linoleic acid (t10, c12 CLA).
