Intraosseous spindle cell lipoma of the maxilla: case report and review of the literature.

Intraosseous lipomas are rare benign tumors of mesenchymal origin, particularly unusual in the maxilla. Spindle cell lipomas, a histological subtype, are even more uncommon, with limited cases reported in the literature. This report documents a rare case of intraosseous spindle cell lipoma in the anterior maxilla of a 66-year-old male and presents a review of 39 gnathic lipoma cases from the literature published between 1976 and 2024.

Gender-specific Single Transcript Level Atlas of Vasopressin and its Receptor (AVPR1a) in the Mouse Brain.

Vasopressin (AVP), a nonapeptide synthesized predominantly by magnocellular hypothalamic neurons, is conveyed to the posterior pituitary the pituitary stalk, where AVP is secreted into the circulation. Known to regulate blood pressure and water homeostasis, it also modulates diverse social behaviors, such as pair-bonding, social recognition and cognition in mammals including humans. Importantly, AVP modulates social behaviors in a gender-specific manner, perhaps, due to gender differences in the distribution in the brain of AVP and its main receptor AVPR1a.

A Comparative Study of Cerium(III) and Cerium(IV) Phosphates for Sunscreens.

Crystalline cerium(III) phosphate (CePO), cerium(IV) phosphates, and nanocrystalline ceria are considered to be promising components of sunscreen cosmetics. This paper reports on a study in which, for the first time, a quantitative comparative analysis was performed of the UV-shielding properties of CePO, Ce(PO)(HPO)(HO), and CePO/CeO composites. Both the sun protection factor and protection factor against UV-A radiation of the materials were determined.

Molecular Subtypes of Head and Neck Cancer in Patients of African Ancestry.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to better understand the complex molecular biomarkers and signatures of head and neck cancer (HNC) among Black patients and identify possible molecular changes associated with HNC disparities.

Experimental Design: Molecular subtypes and genomic changes in HNC samples from patients of African and European ancestry in The Cancer Genome Atlas, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Broad Institute, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and John Hopkins University were identified. Molecular features (genomic, proteomic, transcriptomic) associated with race and genomic alterations associated with clinical outcomes were determined.

Adenoidal-Nasopharyngeal Ratio in Healthy Adults on Cone Beam Computed Tomography.

Objective: This study aimed to quantify the adenoidal-nasopharyngeal ratio (ANR) in a cohort of healthy adults on cone beam computed tomography (CT) using the Fujioka method, which is a reproducible measure of adenoid size and nasopharyngeal patency.

Methods: Electronic health records and maxillofacial cone beam CT in 202 consecutive patients aged 16 years and older were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with a history of adenoidectomy, sinonasal disease, lymphoproliferative disorders, and cleft palate were excluded from the study.

Mesenchymal Chondrosarcoma in the Maxilla: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma is a rare high-grade variant of chondrosarcoma distinguished by its aggressive nature. Molecular studies aid in establishing the diagnosis. We present a case report of mesenchymal chondrosarcoma in the maxilla of a 39-year-old male patient and a literature review of 42 gnathic cases of mesenchymal chondrosarcoma with a discussion of clinical, imaging, microscopic, immunohistochemical, and molecular features.

Negative Roche cobas HPV testing in cases of biopsy-proven invasive cervical carcinoma, compared with Hybrid Capture 2 and liquid-based cytology.

Introduction: The objective of this study was to conduct a retrospective analysis of results of cytology and Roche cobas (RC) and Hybrid Capture 2 (HC2) human papillomavirus (HPV) screening tests in cases of biopsy-proven invasive cervical carcinoma.

Materials And Methods: The clinical data were obtained at a university hospital in New York, NY, between 2004 and 2017. Results of cytology, reported per Bethesda classification system, and HPV screening in 177 identified cases with cytology and biopsy-proven diagnosis of cervical carcinoma were included in the analysis.

Renal cell carcinoma metastatic to the maxillary gingiva: A case report and review of the literature.

Tumor metastasis to the oral cavity is rare and is usually an indication of late-stage disease and poor prognosis. While, there are reports of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) metastatic to oral cavity, vast majority of them are to the jaw. Herein, we present a case of a 78-year-old woman with RCC metastasis limited to the oral soft tissue without any bone involvement.
