Article Synopsis
  • The study introduces a simple, eco-friendly method to enhance superhydrophobicity in metal organic frameworks (MOFs) using sodium oleate, which is cost-effective and applicable to various types of MOFs.
  • This new technique maintains the structural porosity of the modified MOFs similar to the original materials while enabling the creation of magnetic MOF composites that can form stable liquid marbles and respond to magnetic fields.
  • The superhydrophobic MOF-coated fabrics show excellent oil absorption capabilities, making them effective for cleaning floating oil spills and purifying oil-water mixtures, highlighting potential for reuse in oil sorption applications.

Cachexia, malnutrition, significant weight loss, and reduction in food intake due to anorexia represent the most important pathophysiological consequences of pancreatic cancer. Pathophysiological consequences result also from pancreatectomy, the type and severity of which differ significantly and depend on the type of the operation performed. Nutritional intervention, either parenteral or enteral, needs to be seen as a method of support in pancreatic cancer patients aiming at the maintenance of the nutritional and functional status and the prevention or attenuation of cachexia.

Background: Differential diagnosis of patients with lung infiltrates remains a challenge. Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells (TREM)-1 is a neutrophil and monocyte receptor up-regulated during infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of TREM-1 and of C-reactive protein (CRP) from patients with lung infiltrates to discern community acquired lung infections.
