Memory T cells are a heterogeneous population of immune cells that provide adaptive immunity. Its full recovery seems essential for graft-versus-tumor reactions that provide an opportunity for biological cure in patients with acute leukemia. The use of mismatched or haploidentical donors has increased, which has become possible because of modifications in graft versus host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis.

[Multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells application for acute graft versus host disease treatment].

Aim: Analysis of the effectiveness of the MSCs aministration as the second- or third-line therapy of acute GVHD (aGVHD) resistant to glucocorticosteroid treatment.

Materials And Methods: The study included 35 patients who received MSCs obtained from the bone marrow of healthy donors as a treatment of steroid-resistant aGVHD. The clinical parameters of patients, MSCs cultural characteristics, the MSC expression profile for various genes including those involved in immunomodulation, expression of cells surface markers, the source of MSCs, as well as the frequency and number of MSC administrations were analyzed.

Long-term survival of donor bone marrow multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells implanted into the periosteum of patients with allogeneic graft failure.

The present study involved three patients with graft failure following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). We obtained multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) from the original hematopoietic cell donors and implanted these cells in the periosteum to treat long-term bone marrow aplasia. The results showed that in all patients endogenous blood formation was recovered 2 weeks after MSC administration.

Musk deer (Moschus moschiferus): Reinvestigation of main lipid components from preputial gland secretion.

The qualitative and quantitative composition of the principal lipid constituents of Siberian musk deer (Moschus moschiferus) preputial gland secretion, main odor carriers and potential precursors of odorous substances, was investigated by means of high-performance liquid chromatography. Free fatty acids and phenols (10%), waxes (38%), and steroids (38%) were found to be the main groups of the secretion lipids. Cholestanol (I), cholesterol (II), androsterone (III), Δ(4)-3α-hydroxy-17-ketoandrostene (IV), 5β, 3α-hydroxy-17-ketoandrostane (V), 5α, 3β, 17α-dihydroxyandrostane (VI), 5β, 3α, 17β-dihydroxyandrostane (VII), and 5β, 3α, 17α-dihydroxyandrostane (VIII) were isolated from the steroid fraction and their structures confirmed by IR, PMR, and mass spectra.

Lithium in marine elasmobranchs as a natural marker of rectal gland contribution in sodium balance.

Natural concentrations of lithium in blood plasma and urine of several species of elasmobranchs and teleosts from the Black Sea and in rectal gland fluid of the former were determined by mass-spectrometric isotope dilution techniques. Unlike the teleosts, the elasmobranchs showed a prominent shift of Li/Na ratio in blood plasma with respect to the surrounding water, the plasma Li/Na ratio being five times lower than that of sea-water. Li-Na selectivity was found to be high in the kidneys and negligible in the rectal gland.

Induction of interferon in mice and cell cultures by Mycoplasma pneumoniae.

Inoculation of mice and L and human embryonic lung (HEL) cell cultures with Mycoplasma pneumoniae failed to induce the production of interferon. M. pneumoniae multiplied in these cell cultures without a marked cytopathic effect.
